My doctor gave me a list of stages. When I was sent home I was on liquids for a week then went to soft diet, which was stage II. I didnt start eggs until stage III, which is where I am at now. Maybe you should ask your doctor or nutritionist. My favorite protein drink was Instant Carnation Breakfast No sugar added. It actually gave me energy after I drank it for a few days, there are alot of vitamins in it!

You should get a list from your surgeon office each doctor has a different plan so when in doubt ask you doctor.... but just like everyone else it should be clear liquids the first week full liquids week 3 and puree foods on 3 then regular food after that .... You should start training yourself to chew chew chew....I see most people are not prepared for that part of the journey I did try to chew chew chew before surgery so I would get use to it and you really need to chew your food til it is soft....so you don't get a stricture ( food blockage) I wish you the best... Hi Karen. I was sent home on liquids but was having really bad dizzy spells so my surgeon wanted me to go directly to soft foods. He told me that as long as I could tolerate it I can eat it. So, I have been having yogurts, mashed potatoes, protien shakes, scrambled eggs..with his permission i've been also having grilled chicken because he wants me to put more protien. If you are unsure and don't have any resources definately talk to your nutritionist at the doctors office or the surgeon himself.

Karen, you definitely need to listen to what your surgeon/nutritionist advises because everyone is different. Some are sent home on liquids. Some on pureed foods. Others on soft foods. I was sent home on soft foods when I first came home. I ate the usual stuff. Lots of applesauce, yogurt, processed fruit, soups (not creamed soups), cream of wheat or farina, very processed tuna salad with low fat mayo, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, sugar free ice pops, sugar free fudge pops, soft eggs, protein drinks (Unjury was the best tolerated for me). It doesn't sound very appetizing initially but you find that you really don't even want to eat all that much early out. At least I didn't. I got more bored with the limitation than anything. But over time, you get to slowly incorporate more varied foods into your diet so it gets better. But even with the food limitation, when that weight starts to drop off and you start feeling better, the food thing is not such a big deal after all.
