Hi. I was catheterized for my lap rny and my TT. Boy was I glad. I know they get you up soon after surgery, but I wasn't up until the next AM. I'd really rather have the catheter than a bed pan. I know that men have it a bit easier if they don't/can't get out of bed, but I didn't feel it at all, and was able to sleep off the anesthesia overnight. Mine was removed the following morning. Oh, and I was not able to get up right away after my TT, as I had very low blood pressure and was quite dizzy. The catheter gave me one less thing to worry about. I'd discuss it with your Dr. if you are really against it, but it was a welcome thing for me. Good luck!!!!

Yes i had a cath and a very good thing because i had surgery on monday at 7:30 am on monday and dont remember a thing until tuesday afternoon sometime. My aunt removed mine on tues. She is a nurse in the hospital i was in. My nurses didnt do much for me at all. It didnt hurt at all for me to have it removed, but i dont know if it is different for men. Good luck on your surgery. Pam
