I don't know this DR. I was only aware of Dr. O and Dr. Boss. I personally would go to one of the two. I also waited a LONG time to see Dr. O. He was the only person my PCP would refer me to. Was it worth it? Heck YEAH!!! Dr. O'Malley has performed well over 1000 surgeries. If you have any questions, I am more that willing to answer. Hi Tracey, Although my surgeon is Dr. Boss at Highland Hospital, I can tell you that Dr. Joseph Johnson is the Chief of Surgery at Highland. You can find a little information on his education on the Highland Hospital website. I hope this helps. Best wishes on your journey. Burt

Tracey- I do not know about Dr. Johnson's experience with bypass surgery. I had Dr. Boss and I LOVE him! I would think that Dr. Johnson would follow the same protocols as Dr. O and Dr. Boss since they are in the same hospital. Like I said I just dont know about his actual surgery experience. I would ask him. He may be only doing it open at this point too. I know when Dr. Boss started doing bypass he had to do open but he can do lap now too. Good luck!!!! Janet

Hi I go and see Dr Johnson on the 18th of this month for his seminar, I received his packet in the mail today . He seems to be highly educated but it does not say how many surgeries he has done. But he was highly recommended from dr O's office. Tammy

I wish I could have his surgeon but...I am very hopeful and eager to meet Dr.Johnson. If you would like to keep in touch and share your thought, fears, anticpations etc...please feel free to e-mail me. You will see that my email may bring me up as Karen Cadigan (that's my maiden name) Karen Allen is my married name. I will be delighted to hear from you. Have a great day! --- Karen

Hi Tracey, I am scheduled to meet with Dr. Johnson on the 18th of this month. I had previously been referred by my PCP to Dr. O. I had done a lot of research on Dr. O'malley as well as watched the Oprah show that he was featured on. I was determined to do what was neccessary to see him. However, when I found out the waiting period to see him was so long, I have become worried about my insurance running out before I could even be seen. At first I was really reluctant to even consider anyone else. But I will tell you what...after talking to Mary in Dr. Johnsons office and also visiting Highland hospitals website about him, I am really looking forward to meeting him. The fact that he has much experience in laproscopy and that he is the Chief Surgeon of the whole hospital has settled some of my nerves about him. Also, Mary at his office told me that sometimes Dr. o'malley even assists Dr. Johnson. They all work together in a way. Also I have been thinking about how well equiped Highland must be now in working with Bariatric patients. I will definitely let you know what I think after I meet him at the 18th meeting. Wishing you well. Take Care --- Karen
