I am in the process of choosing a doctor and i would like to here some input on Dr, Simon, Dr, Weiss, Dr, Kim and i heard it will be a new doctor on board in a month but i am interested in these doctors because they all do LAP RNY. Also do you guys know how many lap rny each of them done i talked to Dr.Weiss fri and he said 400 so far. So anyway if you are in the process are already had surgery with these Dr's i would like to know if you had any complication, ETC.ETC..Aand what do you think about the Dr. and the program at upstate ny..
Thanks guys i am soooooooooo glad i found this site you guys are so helpful....
Tracey,
Hi Tracey,
I am currently going through the pre-op process with Dr. Simon. He performed a laproscopic adrenalectomy on my sister a few years ago with no problems. My sister is also in her pre-op stage for wls with Dr. Simon. I think the entire program at University is wonderful. The entire staff is very knowledgeable and helpful with any questions you may have. Prior to your first appointment, you are scheduled to attend a 1 1/2 hour information session. This is done by the nutritionist who is wonderful, Marcy, the program coordinator (also wonderful) and one of the surgeons also comes in for a question/answer period. They also have support groups that you can attend. The program is set up to help you to prepare pre-op as well as post-op for continued success year after year. They will advise that this is a process and it can take up to 6 months or sometimes longer once you start the process before you have your surgery. I know someone seeing Dr. Kim who thinks he is very nice (he is also the dr. that spoke to us at our info session). I also know someone that had surgery last year with Dr. Weiss and has not had any complications. Dr. Cunningham is the newest Dr., however, I believe, he only performs open roux-en-y surgeries. The Drs & staff are very honest with you regarding any potential problems that may arise, along with any problems that their patients have had. I trust them completely and stand behind their entire program. I have also sent a number of emails to Marcy (the program coordinator) with questions & she is very quick and thorough with her responses. With my experience, thus far, I highly recommend them. Here's the link to their website. They now require a Program Fee of $50 to be sent in with the questionnaire which is understanable as it takes them alot of time to review these. http://www.upstate.edu/uh/surgery/bariatric/am-i-morbidly-obese.php
Good luck with your decision.

Hello, I had my surgery with Dr. Weiss in April of 2004. I have lost 120lbs so far. He is wonderful, very quiet, but knowledgable. I would highly recommend Upstate, the staff is great. Marcy more or less runs the show and she really knows what she is doing. Everyone else is kind and helpful.Having the surgery was the best decision I have ever made. It is a new life for me. The whole process for surgery took a long time, but worth the wait.Good luck on your journey.
