~~Keep Believing In Yourself~~~
There may be days
when you get up in the morning
and things aren't the way
you had hoped they would be.
That's when you have to
tell yourself that things will get better.
There are times when people
disappoint you and let you down,
But those are the times
when you must remind yourself
to trust your own judgments and opinion
to keep your life focused on believing in yourself
and all that you are capable of.
There will be challenges to face
and changes to make in your life,
and it is up to you to accept them.
Constantly keep yourself headed
in the right direction for you.
It may not be easy at times,
but in those times of struggle
you will find a stronger sense of who you are,
So when the days come that are filled
with frustration and unexpected responsibilities,
remember to believe in yourself
and all you want your life to be,
because the challenges and changes
will only help you to find the goals
that you know are meant to come true for you

~~HERE IS A POST FROM PERRY FENDER~~~TITLED ''''AT GOAL'''
I remember starting my journey 1.5 years ago at 291 lbs. and thinking that I'd never reach the "last" goal... which was my PCP's goal weight of 150 (I'm 5'9). My WLS Surgeon set my goal at 170 (which I was confident I'd make) and I had set my personal goal to 155-160. When my PCP set the goal at 150 - I never in a million years would have ever thought I'd make it (and actually made excuses on why I would never be able to - [I'm large boned, I'm tall, I've been blessed with "baby's got back," and generally am very muscular])!
I remember celebrating the first 41 lbs. lost (putting me at 250) slightly over a month post-op. I remember celebrating making it below 200 at 5.5 months post-op. I remember celebrating century club at 6 months, 1 day post-op. I remember celebrating a normal bmi at 10 months post-op (which was also my surgeon's goal for me). I remember celebrating reaching the top end of my own personal goal (although very quietly) at 14 months post-op and my ultimate goal of 155 at 16 months post-op. Well here it is 18 months later and I'll be damned if I'm not celebrating a goal I never thought I'd reach -- my PCP's goal of 150 (I weighed in at 149 this morning).
So now I sit and ponder - I'm 1.5 years out and although I am not trying to lose anymore weight - I still am. Granted it fluctuates up and down 4-5 pounds regularly - but I've gotten used to seeing the same range of numbers (152-157). I'm quite comfortable right where I am - I am satisfied, I am happy, I am woman - hear me roar!
But when I think about how long it took me to get here - at goal, content, and satisfied with my weight loss - I realize - I really will NEVER reach goal. Goal is a lifetime of healthy eating, habits, and changes. If something doesn't work - I change it. If something does - I follow it. If I want something - I eat it - but not every day, every meal, or every chance I get (save for the "crack" [Starbucks for those who do not know me]). I've had to reprogram my whole way of thinking about food (and thanks to the negative reinforcements of this surgery - that part has been easy for me to do - I hate getting sick!)
But now the definition of "goal" has changed - it now means making all of those changes permanent - never slipping back into my old habits that led me down the path of obesity. I feel normal most days now - I feel like I "fit in" in "normal" society. I no longer feel as if I am being stared at due to my weight or what I have on my plate. It's so easy to just blend in - quietly taking my place and observing all of those things I missed out on from isolation and shame.
Whoever first coined the phrase "nothing tastes as good as thin feels" (not an AMOSonian - but the real originator of the phrase) truly understood obesity - and now I truly understand exactly what it means to feel thin.
Dream big - believe in yourself - and PERSEVERE! Never give up hope guys - some dreams (even those we do not "believe" [we only hope for]) do come true!
Much love and best wishes ~ Perry
