The amount of time it takes to undergo Lap WLS depends on several things, and varies from patient to patient. In general the more excess fat that is carried in front (where the surgery is done), the longer the surgery takes. My surgery in May took about 2 hours, while my sister, Saras (who had surgery after me on the same day) took 3 hours. My eldest sister, Barbara was in surgery in September for 7-1/2 hours! 
The long time in surgery scared the devil outta me, 
but everything went well. 
The long surgery was mostly because they had to repair a hernia they found while they were in there. Luckily, we are all doing great now and have each lost over 100 pounds!
