I don't want anyone at my job to know about my surgery!
Hello Everyone!
So my doctors office called me today and told me that they submitted my paper work ... They told me that surgery could be as early as 3 weeks from now...which is wonderful (provided that they approve me).
But i have a lil problem... My Job doesn't know about this .. And i really don't want anyone in my office to find out ... I'm even paronoid to call Benefits about short term disability!!! in fear that it might get back to the people i work with ..... they could be cruel... and i don't want to use up my vacation time..
So here is my question... When going on short term disability, do i have to tell them exactly what im having done? any H.R specialist out there? lololo
Hi Michelle
I don't have an answer regarding the STD but I read your profile and wanted to send out some support to you! Seems like you have had a rough go of it but it looks like there is an end to your tunnel, which is awesome. I am little over two weeks post op and Dr. Macura did my surgery. I just wanted to let you know I found him and Dr. Lazarro to be awesome. You are definitely in good hands!!! Good Luck, keep us posted and e mail me anytime if you need.

You have to tell the STD provider what surgery you're having. i think I listed hiatal hernia repair first as a symptom, and put RNY for the surgery, and I don't think the one benefits person who saw it was the wiser.
And other people are right, it is ILLEGAL for anyone to speak of your health conditions. Rest assured if something is said, you'll have legal recourse.
I went through the same thing. Told everyone it was a nissen fundopilocation (sp?) for a hiatal hernia, and that way the eating thing is less of an issue after surgery. But be prepared, people are nosy, and will gossip about your weight loss anyways.
Best of luck!
