Healthy foods and SUGAR
Hi Everyone
While shopping today in the grocery store I decided I was going to make some tomato soup for dinner. When I checked out the soup isle all the soups including the healthy choice fat free had way too much sugar. I then decided to go the the health food isle and even there the sugar was very high. I was surprised to find a high sugar reading even in lite canned fruit with no added sugar in natural juices. My question is: how much sugar is ok to have when purchasing healthy food choices such as apple sauce, fruit, soup etc. When I buy yougurt I buy Adkins brand because there is no sugar or fat. I just want to find out how do we go around the sugar issue---SUGAR IS IN EVERYTHING!

PS--this weekend I became the proud owner of my TEENAGE DAUGHTER'S hand me down jeans...I have not worn "real jeans" w/ zipper and pockets in at least 5 years. It felt sooooo good to be able to fit into them. I never thought I would be wearing my daughter's clothes.
Hi Marianne,
What great news! You and your daughter can share some outfits now - don't know if that taste in clothing is the same but.... I bet you looked hot in your "new" jeans. Maybe you can wear them to the meeting next Monday!
About the sugar - when they tell you to not eat sugar, they are mostly talking about refined and added sugars like those in cakes, cookies, all that no-fat (snackwells) foods. The sugars that you find in the canned fruits and soups and things aren't added sugars but the natural sugar in the ingredients. As long as you aren't eating an excessive amount at one time, they shouldn't bother you. Rather than read the % of sugar in the contents, make sure to look at the ingredients. If sugar is listed, it has to be pretty far down on the list so as to not affect you.
Hope that helps,
Patti
Hi Marianne,
I'm glad that your doing well. To answer your question my surgeons office says that there is no way of not eating any sugar if the food that you want to eat has sugar within the first 3 ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup normally anything ending in (ose) is sugar, then it's something that I can't have. Hope that helps I have had the canned soups and had no problem with them as far as dumping. I hope this helps you if not then maybe you should call your doc to see what they recommened. Take care!!!!
