I am 3 weeks as of today post op. I have had a rough three weeks. I have a stap infection in my inscision that seems like it doesn't want to heal. My question is what am I supposed to be eating?? i am drinking Atkins shakes if I am lucky I can drink most of (1) can and water, a glass of crystal light. I will eat some crackers. I have lost 20 pounds but I am scared that I am doing something wrong, next week I can start phase 2 but again I am scared of what i can and can not eat.. I am really scared. also has any one had the problem with there incision? I had an open RNY. Thanks anyone that could help me. Nina

Nina, I had my surgery 1 day before you. My doctor has me on pureed foods for 8 weeks. I am not sure what you are allowed but I eat alot of ricotta cheese, pureed chicken and meatballs, creamed spinach, yogurt, pureed carrots, instant grits and sweet potatoes. Its hard for me to eat because I never feel hungry and after my protein drinks I am so full.(I drink half at a time) Its also hard to get in all my water but I try to drink a few ounces every 15-20 minutes. I focus on getting at least all my protein and water in. I hope that helps some. I am still learning. I have found the people on the boards are a great resource and always willing to answer questions. Good Luck

hi, dont be hard on yourself its barely been a month so take it easy. I went thru my journal from last year to see what I was eating at 3 weeks out. Any type of Broth Sugar free or natural applesauce sugar free jello or pudding soup- no heavy creamy soups, the watery brothy ones baby food (especially on super sensitive days) diet snapple went down well sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfst, with skim milk mixed my protein powder with skim milk instead of whole sugar free popsicles saved my life! ( the brand was actually called Popsicle, in the yellow box, the other brands have the sweetners as a substitute, I didnt like those) ritz crackers with cream cheese salmon (in a can I would mu**** up real good, and sometimes mix it with cream cheese) tuna (same thing as salmon, in a can, light mayo) things that bloated me out, or came back up: anything carbonated (i still dont drink soda) puffy stuff (oatmeal, grits, bread, pasta didnt sit well till a few months out) meat (too heavy to hard to process unless its totally pureed or mushed) heavy creamy stuff greasy stuff (made the mistake of eating some fries) chew like 200 times, take the time to enjoy what little you can get down. good luck!
