My Update
Hi Everyone,
It has been so long since I have posted. I've been sort of depressed lately, but today I made a decision to stop lurking and fill you in on what's been going on.
At the end of Aug I was hospitalized for 2 weeks due to a bad attack of diverticulitis. This is a disease of the colon. I was running high fevers and I was in horrible pain due to an abcess in the colon. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me in 3 years. All the doctors have told me that I must have surgery to remove the diseased section of my colon.
Three days after I got home from the hospital I got a letter in the mail from Dr Garber telling me I had a date for my WLS on 10/26. I cried my eyes out. This was the letter I was waiting for for over 7 months of monthly weigh ins and countless doctor visits.
Unfortunatly I had to make the decision to postpone the WLS and proceed with my colon surgery first. I am keeping the date, but I am having a colon resection. Dr Garber is doing the surgery. He said if all goes well, we can still move ahead in a few months to do the gastric bypass. I am hoping and praying that he can do the colon surgery laproscopically. He certainly is known to be an expert in that, but he said he won't know if thats possible till he goes in there. It may end up being open.
I just can't wait till this whole thing is over with and I can move on. I waitied so long to get the date for my WLS, and now it is on the back burner. Oh well...I really just want to be healthy. I have to say that I am a nervous wreck about the surgery. Of course, I have that horrible fear that I won't wake up! Please keep me in your prayers. I just want an uneventful surgery, with no complications.
I will keep you posted
Gail

You are in very good hands with your surgeon, and post poning your wls is a small set back you have waited 7 months for that date and it will happen but first things first and if that means taken care of the colon than that is what you will do, wls will still be there after, its not as though you are not medically able to have surgery as some here are not.
Gail everything will be fine, I know it can be depressing, after 7 months of waiting and now something comes up that you are not able to have surgery at this time and that is just what it is (not at this time), but you will have wls, we are here for you so please don't lurk and express your self. We all do it, I know I have done plenty.
I am thankful that you are here to share this with us, and hope you continue to keep us posted.
I will be praying for you to have an uneventful surgery and wishing you the best.
Christine
Hi Gail, I know your disappointed about this set back, however your bowel resection has to take priority now. it took 8 months for me to have surgery with Garber and i didnt have to do a 6 month diet. Are you going to be at mercy hospital?youll get a priview of the nurses, they all are great..espically Ann. your in good hands and you will receive greatcare there. All the Best!
