Donna, I'd go in street clothes. They're going to make you change into a gown as soon as you get there anyway. Bring your pjs if you'd like (that's what I did), but you won't really be able to change that first day (IV, catheter, etc).....toothbrush, any contact stuff you might need, slippers...that's all I used. Good luck! Claudia

I recommend street clothes too. They wouldn't even let me wear PJ's i had to wear a hospital grown the whole time but it wasn't too bad. good luck

Hiya Donna When I had my surgery I packed all my essentials: toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, listering breath strips**, mouthwash**, chapstick**, deodorant. I did not bring any sleeping attire nor bathrobe, because I knew we would have the drain, and the catheter so I figured why ruin my robe and nightgown. I wore the hospital gown and then another hospital gown was used as my robe. Oh and don't forget good slippers--ones with a rubber sole because they will be getting you up to walk later on during the day of your surgery and many times during your hospital stay. Going home I wore my knee length nightgown w/underpants and a lounging dress with snaps on top which looked like I was wearing a dress but I also used it as a robe. I hope this helps. The ** means that these items are a must! Good Luck--all will be fine! Hugs Marianne

I will have my surgery on November 19th and I'm taking my hygeine stuff (toothbrush & paste, brush, deoderant, powder, ,ect..) clothes to wear home, slippers, and I'm taking some comfy shorts to wear under my hospital gown to keep my butt covered. I've done this at all my hospitalizations and you can put the catheter through the leg of the shorts and it works great. I'm also taking my discman and cd's to listen to (i'm not a tv person), chapstick and my contact list. Good luck-- Kathi
