Christine... I read your profile and the situation with your insurance company sounds like mine. I first saw my surgeon in March of this year after switching to my husbands health insurance which covers WLS. I was told I could have my surgery June 25th. All I needed was my pre-approval from my insurance company (Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield) and all my testing. I did all the testing only to find out my insurance company failed to mention I needed to be on a medically supervised diet and exercise program for 6 months prior to surgery occuring within the past 2 years. Of course the last medically supervised diet I was on was 3 years ago. I was crushed and discouraged and cried a ton but thankfully Dr Lirio's office was willing to help me. He requires all his patients to use medifast prior to surgery and I was already on it in anticipation of my WLS sooo they switched me to modified medifast which is basically liquid supplements with one balanced meal per day. I went to be weighed weekly and kept a record of my exercise log. I stuck it out for 4 and a half months when I heard they had an opening for WLS on 9/27/04. It was 17 days short of 6 months so we decided to go for it. My insurance company said to wait until 1 week before to try for approval when we asked if it would be denied for 17 days. 10 days before my surgery my insurance company denied my surgery stating I did not meet criteria because it had not been 6 months!! To make a long story short, my sister is an attorney and called my insurance company, threatened a law suit and the same day I was approved. Yeah I know I rambled but back to the point...I am 16 days post op and it was worth the 6 months of medically supervied dieting. I lost 47 lbs before my surgery in the 6 months I was being supervised. It seems like a long time but it will go fast and you will feel better as you lose weight. Hang in there You can do it!

Christine I was wondering about you. Your menu looks good. Don't forget the water.... You should try different things so you wont get bored. Just some ideas: Breakfast: Yogurt, srambled egg/toast, cereal, Carnation Instant Breakfast, Lunch: lean ham, lowfat swiss cheese, crackers, wheat bread etc. Dinner: turkey, chicken, fish, lean beef with a salad on the side If you need snacks in between: lowfat mozarella string cheese, fatfree pudding, fruits etc Everything will be fine, have faith in GOD. Hi Christine, I am so sad that you are going through this.. I saw your menu and it concerns me that you are eating this due to the fact that you have not had surgery yet and are limiting yourself to such a small amount of food in such an early stage. I saw my pcp yesterday and she mentioned that in the mean while until I come back from vacation I can do a simple diet. Try this diet. magazines.ivillage.com/goodhousekeeping/diet/plans/articles/0,,284559_558251,00.html?arrivalSA=1&cobrandRef=0&arrival_freqCap=1&pba=adid=11382143 It has helped me loose over 20 pds in a period of a month, with some exercise and this diet I have been able to drop the pounds, however, do not be discouraged if you don't loose as much, remember that it depends on how much you weight. I like it, it gives me a variety of food and it has helped me... Hope this helps.. Hey how about becoming buddies over the phone and checking in on each other to see how we are doing?? Mercedes
