Hey Mery, I wasn't allowed to have salad till i was like 5 or 6 months Post op. @ one month post op i would say i was eating like 2 oz per meal. Its gonna take u a while to know when you a re full or not. I bought these 4 oz glad ware containers I put my food in there and its a great way to measure ur portions. I still never feel hungry. I only eat cause i have too. and im now 8 months out. Nicole -143

Mery, I think its important to follow ur docs guidlines. I look at it this way its as if we are a baby. Our Pouch is new and we have to slowly add things in. Like babies go through stages with food So do we..... Our bodys have been through a major change and we can't go back to eating things we ate before surgery. Our bodies need time to adjust to the foods. You will have plenty of time to eat salad and other things. Take it easy for now. You are still a new post op. Follow ur docs rules and you will do fine. then again each doc is different. Nicole -143

I can start raw veggies and salad tomorrow. But my doctor told me not iceberg lettuce. But other lettuces are fine. Something about the roughage from ice berg. I am still on the 2 oz a meal doctors orders, but I am full so it isn't a problem. I still have the Carnation Istant Breakfast for the protein, it is all counted as your liquid intake. I see you had your surgery 2 days before mine. How are you doing with it? Good Luck, Shirley

Hi Mery I had my surgery on 9/21 and I too was nervous about how much to eat and was I overdoing it. Right now I am on pureed foods. For breakfast I have 2 oz starch, 2 oz protein, lunch=2 oz starch, 1 oz veg, 2 oz protein, dinner=2 oz starch, 1 oz veg, 2 oz protein. This is the forumula that was given to me by my nutritionist. I have found that when eating I know it is time to stop when I feel the gurgling in my stomach. If I stop at this point I am not full but satisfied. Salad is a no-no! I was told that it will be sometime before we can have salad. I hope this helps. Let me know how you make out. Marianne

Hi Mery-- I couldnt eat salads till my 5th month. I started out with iceberg lettuce (mostly water) and gradually tried other types. Your going to find you will like different textures (not so much the flavor) of the lettuce. In the beginning peel the tomato, the skin is not very digestible. Cuccumbers are good but found carrots took a little time to digest because they are raw. I would have a salad for lunch (a small one from the deli) and would only eat half of it (other half for breaktime). If you add chicken or ham or cheese, if you think your going to eat a half of slice of it, cut it in half again. With all the other stuff its impossible to eat it and who likes soggy chees, lol, ick. Learning if you are full is a learning experienc. Throw up a few times, and you learn fast. You'll know when the next bite will very well send you over the edge. Good luck and happy losing........
