Diet Help
Hello everyone. I hope all is going well for everybody. Once again I need help from the masters.
Question #1. I am having trouble understanding how to take my fluids. I mean is it OK to drink all day (with the exception of 1/2 hour before and after meals). I mean how quickly should I be drinking fluids. I don't want to drink to much and stretch my stomach. Am I suppose to be drinking a certain amount of ounces or cups at a time? Do I have to drink a little and then wait, should I be drinking a certain about at a time then waiting? Or is it ok to drink continually?
Question #2. How did you move on to the next stage of eating. I am one month post op. All I eat now is yogurt, mashed potatoes, and blended soups (and my protein drinks and shakes of course). I have not tried eating any regular food. How did you transition to the next stage? And When? I called the nutritionist but I guess since she got her consultation fee, she doesn't have time for me anymore (even though I was told I was covered for a year of questions and concerns). Anyway, all advice and tips are welcomed, because I need some guidance.
Thanks, Armena Craft
31 days post op
Hi Armena
I'm not sure of the answer to question #1 because I'm still trying to get that under control myself. However, question #2, your surgeon is suppose to let you know when to advance to the next stage. Have you had your post op visit with him yet? You can also address question #1 to your surgeon too. He should be able to give you the answers you need. Did he give you a pamphlet on gastric bypass post op guidelines? Your surgeon is there for any concerns you may have. He/she can give you the best answers. When I had my first post op visit last Friday with my surgeon, he would not put me on stage 2. I have to do 2 more weeks of full liquids . I have another visit scheduled for 10/15 and he will let me know at the time if I can advance to the soft/pureed foods. I sure do hope so These liquids make me feel like I want to Anyway, I hope I helped somewhat. Wishing you all the best as you continue this journey.
Have a wonderful, blessed, and happy weekend.
Peace, and happiness always.
Glenda
Thanks
Yeah I know all the Dr. stuff and I have all the handouts, but I think it's more of a mind thing. I'm kinda scare to advance to the next stage. Am one month post-op now and my Dr. said it was ok to advice to the next stage. I just wanted some tips on how others returned to the world of regular eating.
As for my first question I keep calling the nutritionist my Dr. sent me too, however she never returns my calls. So I thought I would just throw the question out there and hear some thoughts on the subject, of course I know to discuss these things with my Dr. but when ever I post a question on the message boards I always get nice little tips. I go back to my Dr. on the 21ST and I will discuss these issues with him then, but until then just wanted some thoughts from the AMOS family.
Anyway how are things going with you?
Oh, and yes you were helpful, thanks!
Well am playing it safe. I just having a protein shake in the morning (Designer Whey, Tropical Punch-17gms), and blended soups and mashed potatoes. A 20oz Isopure protein(40 gms) water as well (you have to get the proptein in you know. I have been getting my protein in 57gms total for the day, but am still working on getting more fluids in, see that was part of my question. Who know After I go to the doctor in two more weeks I will discuss the whole water intake thing. But 21lbs takes Great!

Well hello Twin, am doing ok, just alot of nauesa in the mornings (I hate the train now) and sometimes throughout the day (when I forget to eat). Other wise am feeling ok. I going back to my doctor on the 21st so I will talk to him about the water thing.
Now, are the foods you're eating solids (regular) foods or still puree?
I also noticed on one of your other posting, you were talking about protein (my Dr. only wants me to get 48 gms of protein a day). I drink a Isopure protein water a day (about $3.00 bottle) 40 gms of protein, really good flavors (they taste great). I also have a scoop of tropical punch Designer Whey protein powder (about $26.00, 40 scoops per container) with 4oz of skim milk in the morning (also taste yummy). My Dr. told me all fluids count towards my fluid intake for the day.
Now how are you feeling, is everything ok, Wow 38Lbs, you go girl, me am scared to get on the scale so I will wait until my next appointment. everyone tells me I look great so I will go by that until my next visit to the Dr..
I hate my lunch box, I need something more girly. I have a old ugly black one. Give me a call when you get a chance, am running around alot with these two jobs, but leave a message and I will get back to you ASAP!
Take care, Armena
