Jessica,
I had my band for 7 years and then it slipped and I had it taken out.  I gained 90 lbs back in one year.    I thought I could do it on my own, but sadly I could not.  I wish I had the band taken out and a revision at the same time.  3 weeks ago I had the sleeve done.  The first week is tough, but it has beeen smooth sailing since.  If you can have it done at the same time-- do it.
Good Luck

Hi Jessie,
I had the band done by Geiss and dropped 60 pounds, the band slipped ...had a revision and gained 15 pounds :(.... it feel uncomfortable and am now having done what i wanted to have done in the first place, gastric bypass by Dr Garber, I am sooo excited and looking for the weight the weight fly off, the band was ok but it was sooo slow. I remember being in the hosp, after having the revision done and one doctor told me the eventually the band always comes out sooner or later....wish i had heard that b4 i had the revision done...well lets keep intouch I dont live far from you.

I just had my band removed last Wednesday because it failed after 2 years - the band wasn't bad or I wasn't ulcerated - I'd only lost 12-15 pounds in 2 years! I had it revised to a RNY and so far I have lost 12 pounds since last week.

If it doesn't work, talk to your doctor and then get his/her advice.

Good luck!!

Getting my band out was the best thing I ever did.  I should have gotten the bypass from the beginning!  Good luck!  I hope you will be as happy as I am!

I'm trying to do the same thing. I have horrible heartburn and reflux when there is any restriction. I've had my band for over 2 years and am almost back up to my pre-op weight after having lost 70lbs. I was only able to lose that much because my band was so tight I couldn't eat anything. It's been a horrible roller coaster of fills and unfills. Nightmare. I hope I can get this stupid thing out soon and get the RNY. I went to the Seminar for RNY a month ago and the surgeon there said, "One in every three Lap-band patients will have to have their band removed due to failure or complications." That's not very comforting. Wish I had known this before hand. Good luck!

Hi all thank you all so much for your replies.  I am so sorry it has taken such a long time to reply.  I have been SUPER bummed out  I met a AWESOME surgeon did all my pre-requesites ect ect had surgery date for the revision set was supposed to have surgery July 2nd however my insurance denied me because the hospital my surgeon works out of is not a center of excellence.  I have been super bummed and trying to find a new surgeon I met with Dr Angstadt today but need to do a little more research bc I really have not heard of anyone that has used him.     Hope you all are doing well   Hugs

I used Geiss as well.....what a great SALESMAN he was for the band!  I kept that stupid thing in for 4 miserable years.  Fill, unfill, fill, unfill.  I found Dr. Vohra on a Friday afternoon.  Met with him the following Monday, he had me in for emergency surgery that Thursday to remove my band and 2 months later he bypassed me!  I couldn't be happier and im at my goal weight!  Well, I was at my goal weight, I cheated a bunch this winter so I put a few pounds on, but Im working to get the 12 pounds off.  Ill do it with no problem as 12 pounds is nothing compared to the 143 I lost!!
Any questions feel free to PM me!  We live in the same town, I can even meet you!
Good Luck!!
Nicole
