Hello NY friends,

Hope everyone had a good day and ........HAPPY FRIDAY tomorrow!

Christine, you asked what I do for work and.... I work for BOCES in Glens Falls. It is a K-5 school for emotional, behavioral and psychiatric children. We have 6 in each classroom with min. 2 adults. Some rooms have adults assigned to specific children. So there are more adults in a room. It is summer school now and the students that come during the year, most continue through the summer for the consistancy and services they receive. The kids get their education, OT, PT, assistive tech, speech, group counc and individual therapy. I am in a class of 5-7yr olds. Rough crowd. Alot of anger. Unwanted and unloved children. It's amazing that the kids survive at such a young age from what they are exposed to. THe abuse, neglect, poverty and unstable parenting.

Some days are rough but I used to be an x-ray tech and made alot more money but now I like what I do and feel that I am a positive influence.

What does everyone else do here for work????

Good question! Now we can get to know one another !

Have a good night,
Lisa

Hi,

I work at CV-TEC in Plattsburgh NY, I work as a teacher assistant in the culinary arts and Hospitality class..I love my job. I work with high school students from the age of 16-19..also some of our students come from our BOCES at the other side of our school. I have been there since 2003 and wouldn't change my job for nothing...

Pam,

Then you understand where I am coming from with the kids....
I also worked with HS age. Tough age group as far as wanting to learn. VO-TEC seems to be more interesting for the kids that are there to learn a trade but for those struggling to graduate or GED it is difficult to hold their interest and get them through.

I am a TA too! Not a lot of pay but a very rewarding and fullfilling job!

Lisa,

I do understand where you are coming from. Very tough age group but I just love it. and I learn so much from them as I hope they learn from me..TA's don't make a lot of money thats for sure, and sometimes I think we do more then the teachers..( in my case anyway). but I love it ..and I have always said to my own kids and others it's not always about the money..its about if you love what your doing.and I am lucky enough to have found what I love doing even if it's not a money maker..

Hi! I am a registered nurse. I work at a nursing home in Albany. Have been there for the entire time I have been a nurse - 17 years. Love it and hate it all at the same time.

Today has been a good day! Donated blood for the first time since 2004. The last time I tried it was so bad for me and the tech, that they pretty much told me not to come back. I was simply too big for them to get the vein. I figured I would try again now and if it didn't go well then the weight had nothing to do with it and I would never try again. It went fabulously. The tech got in on the first try and there is absolutely no bruise. Yeah me! This is something that I have always wanted to do with regularity  and now I probably can (as long as my hemoglobin stays good).

Now to keep drinking!! Have a great evening and weekend everyone!
