VSG in the Albany NY area

Hi,
I am relatively new to this process and I was wondering if there is anyone in the Capital District that has had the VSG procedure done? I have heard that they are now doing it at Albany Med ? Does anyone have any information they would be willing to share ? Also if anyone has experience with CDPHP insurance that they would be willing to share that would be wonderful as well. Thanks in advance for your help !

Hi Christine! I am from just south of Albany. Dr. Singh at Albany Med does do VSG. However I went down to NYC to have it done with Dr. Pomp.  Couldn't be happier with my choice!  No experience with CDPHP.  If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!  Jen

Did you consider Dr. Singh and then decide against him for some reason ? I know my insurance would not allow me to travel out of network so Dr. Pomp would not work for me. Thanks so much for your reply !

Hi Christine, Sorry this took me so long.  I did consider Singh.  Went through all their hoops, had a date but my insurance company denied me.  Singh's scheduler wouldn't help me appeal, they just cancelled everything. They did offer to do RNY but I didn't want that so I went to Pomp.  Jen

That really sucks about Singh's office staff. Really says something about the way they treat people. Glad you found someone you were happy with !

I also have had VSG. I had mine done at the Cleveland Clinic.  I had Blue-Cross/Blue Shield....

I'm a support group leader as well....and questions, feel free to ask!

We are starting to see more people with VSG come to the support group at Albany Med. And we have a fairly regular member that works for a health insurance company and actually reviews WLS cases for approval. You may want to pop in some time. Every Thursday 5:30 to 7:30 at the Albany Med South Campus, 25 Hackett Blvd. Everyone is welcome to attend -- any hospital, any WLS, pre and post-ops. Bring your support persons too. You also do not need to be a WLS patient at all. We have one gentleman that comes weekly & he is on a weight loss journey that does not include surgery.
