Help, Strange Lap Band Question

 A friend of mine is scheduled for lap band surgery next month and today her surgeon told her that he wants to "staple off the diverticular before surgery because it might get in the way".
I had GBP but I attend support groups with banders and I've never heard of this before. Any feedback????

I wonder if she has diverticulitus and it would cause complications for the surgery.

 Thanks Marcia. Missed you this morning. She spoke to her Dr and she does have diverticulitus and it's right where the band needs to be placed. The doc is going to try to repair at the time of the band placement. May have to have a second surgery if he cant place the band at that time

That does sound resonable. If it is in the stomach it could interfere with her proceedure or cause complications at the time of the banding.

At my support group we recently had someone with diverticulum in her stomach. She was scheduled for a verticle sleeve gastrectomy and they weren't sure if they could do it. Luckily the surgeon was able to complete her proceedure as scheduled, the diverticulum was located in the portion of the stomach that is removed in a VSG.
