I used Dr Bessler and had my surgery on October 2008.  His office is great and he is the best surgeon.  I had a very complicated surgery and he did a great job.  In a way you could call  my surgery a revision.  I had reflux surgery back in 1998 and in order to do my RNY, he had to take the reflux surgery apart and then first do the RNY.  There was a tiny complication while taking the original surgery apart, my esophagus tore slightly but he was able to repair  it with no problems via a scope down my throat.  He had told me that since my surgery was going to be so complicated, he may not be able to do it laporascopically, he might have to convert to open.  But, thank goodness with all his skill, he successfully did it entirely laproscopically.

I have Medicare and Empire BCBS supplemental plan.  The empire plans are different since my empire is part of medicare.  I didn't have to do a 6 month diet, medicare actually doesn't preapprove.  I had to do Dr Besslers requirements of all the preop testing and consultations - which for me was pretty lengthy because I have alot of medical problems and then I had to pray that medicare paid after the fact and thank goodness they did.

I came to the office for the first time in April and had my surgery in October.  It could have been sooner but I had a few things that delayed it a month or 2.

You have chosen a great office.  Nancy the nutritionist is great.  You will meet with her and she will go over in detail everything that you will need as far as food and supplements.  She will go over all the stages of the diet with you as well. She is very thorough.

I wish you all the best and please, feel free to PM me with any questions you may have along the way.  One piece of advise - get copies of all your labs from the start.
