Had to cancel surgery last week... now to reschedule.
My mother had to have heart surgery March 1st. The 4 hour surgery turned into 13.5 hours to replace the aortic valve, aorta root and do 2 bypasses. And then 2 days later her heart rate started dropping and a scan showed that she had a tear in the left circumflex artery. It was too much for her to have 2 surgeries and she passed late on March 4th, just 12 hours after I canceled my surgery.
I was afraid something like this would happen and I'd be in the middle of the prep and wouldn't be able to be with the family. I also thought that if I gave up my spot someone else could be moved up into it on March 8th, but they'd need to prepare for the surgery.
Dr. Panemanglore and Kim were both very understanding and helpful. Now I have to get rescheduled so that I don't backslide too far. I have got to say this hasn't been an easy couple of weeks for following any diet. I'm hoping to be good now even with Easter coming up soon. Luckily I'm not a big fan of Easter candy.

My deepest sympathy for your loss.
Please take some time for your grief, a major loss of this magnitude at times is a reason to consider postponing surgery, with the reason that this may not be the BEST time to take advantage of the tool to develop the lifelong lifestyle needed for success.
Grieving a loss without having food can be a very difficult challenge. Just sharing my professional experience in doing preop psych evals and what is seen in literature as well as personal experience seeing folks having a major loss have a difficult time and sometimes not have energy or focus on the tool during the so short honeymoon phase of 6 months or so...be well
Whatever you decide I wish you well. WIll keep you in my htoughts and prayers.
