Question about Community General Hospital Bariatric Syracuse

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the doctors at Community General Hospital Bariatric? I am attending their weight loss seminar Monday, but am wondering how they are? I'm very nervous, but i've come to terms with the fact that i am unable to lose weight on my own (i've been overweight my whole life...several diets that have failed, joined a gym and worked out 5 days a wk for a year with no major results. I have high blood pressure and am only 24 years old, and have had it since the age of 12.)
Any advice anyone could give me would be great! I was also wondering, if anyone knows if they do the Lap Band also? I do not feel the gastric bypass is right for me. I am 5'7 and wear a size 18/20 jeans...not comfortable posting my weight yet . Thanks to those *****ply :) Have a nice day.

Yeah they do 4 different procedures and one of them is Lap Band. I know someone who works at Community and they say they have heard good things about the program.

Hi there!  I had surgery at community with dr. desimone and dr. cooper on Dec. 28th, 2009. They are great doctors and i did not have any problems with anything afterwards. The nurse practionier (stephnie) and schedulier (yovonne) are also really good at what they do.  I really love Stephnie. I Started the program back in may because my insurance required a 6 month doctor die****ch. I started at 429 and am now down to 353 now.

Hi! I am going to St.Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse tomorrow. When I told my PCP he said it was an excellent hospital is one of the top ten heart hospitals in the country. Dr. Graber is my surgeon there. I am about your size and I was on diets my whole life. I also thought that I wanted the lap band but I am having RNY. I am a very active person and if I wasn't I would be a lot heavier. I can't wait to be on the losers bench. Good luck in your choice.

Dr. Graber works in Syracuse, as well as St. Lukes in Utica?

Hi! Cindy,
Yes Dr. Graber started operating at St. Joseph's on Feb 1st and I was the first patient to have RNY at St. Joseph's hospital. They were so good to me. They just kept telling me that I made history because I was their first patient. The nurses were always available when ever I rang for them. Also asking if I needed anything or wanted them to do anything to make me more comfortable. I can't say enough about my stay there and my care. Dr. Graber and staff (2 others Dr. & PA) were their Tuesday morning at 7AM checking on me.
His PA- Erwin Brown released me on Wednesday. She said if I had anything at all that I needed to discuss, just call the office in Utica. I am not a young kid so little by little I'm getting better.
Believe me when I say that they are a 10 on the scale of 0-10.

Hi Hope your informational night was a success. I attended the informational session in November and have moved ahead quickly.  I love Stephanie the NP you see and Yvonne who does the scheduling is very good at what she does. I have completed the blood work, GI series, nutrition counceling, overnight sleep study and psych and everyone has been wonderful. My insurabce requires 6 month wait until surgery so I will not have mine until June.  If you have any questions just post or email and I will try to help...
