Hi Davida -

Sorry - Hope I didn't come across as mean - was truly just confused!  But then, some days I'm easily confused!  LOL

Ah, so you've already met with the great one!  haha  He really is a superb surgeon - magical hands and brain to match - so I think we've made good decisions there.  I'm not at all worried about him in that way.  Just secretly a little worried that he'll get in there and decide HE knows what I want more than I do and just do what HE wants!  LOL  I'm very encouraged by reports that he's a lot more considerate after the surgery when he visits you in the hospital.

I know you're a little bit of a drive away, but maybe when the weather's better you might try the support group at Highland.  I've heard it's really great for RNYers.  Or maybe you've got a good group down your way.

As for things working out for me, I'm a little bummed right now.  I was replying to your posts last night from work (stayed late to surf the net) and when I got home there was a denial letter from my insurer.  I know it's gonna work out - I meet every requirement there is, so it's probably just a case of O'Malley's office forgot to send something.  But I've got to stew all weekend now - Grrr!  LOL

Hope things go well for you, too.  Keep me posted.

Hi Davida - I'll be going home probably about the same time you'll be having your surgery.  I'm scheduled for the 25th for my DS.

About Dr. O'Malley - at the seminar I thought he was great.  Everybody gives you the hand-holding line and I thought he was just very matter-of-fact.  Then I actually met him and it was hate at first sight.  I probably shouldn't be saying this  - you never know, maybe he or someone on his staff reads the site!  Yikes!  Frankly he's a pompous ass and a total jerk.  He spent nearly an hour trying to talk me into an RNY and was actually pissy that I refused.  Then he just stalked out of the room and I wasn't allowed any opportunity to ask him any questions.  Fortunately, I didn't really have any.  I felt betrayed and was pretty badly shaken but went ahead and scheduled at that point then went home and gave serious consideration to finding another doctor.  But then I decided a couple of things.

1.  The man may be a complete jerk, but he's got gifted hands and fantastic surgical skills and that's what really counts.
2.  There's something to be said for having your doctor within easy reach afterwards just in case.
3.  Everyone I've spoken to says he's kind AFTER the surgery when he visits you in the hospital, so we'll see.

I've stuck with my decision to go ahead with Dr. O'Malley despite the outright lies he told me, scare tactics he used, and unexcusably condescending and rude behavior when trying to talk me into the RNY.

I will also tell you to be sure you learn as much as you can about the kind of  aftercare and diet you will need as they are VERY RNY oriented there and every bit of info they give you is geared toward that surgery.

Good luck!

Hi!

I'm new to the site. I'm from the Buffalo area but I'm scheduled to go to Dr. O'Malley's seminar on 4/29. Two people I know have had RNY by him and have recommended him so even though he's over an hour away, I'm looking at going with him. Now, reading these posts, I'm starting to wonder.

Does he do DS? I've spent most of today researching online and I'm pretty well sold on RNY, but it would be interesting to know if he did DS.

I'm interested in your imput. Is he worth the trip?

xoxo,
Katie
