5 days to go
I have been on a MD directed 1200 calorie/day diet since 12/17/09. Prior to the start of that, I had lost 30 pounds since the beginning of this adventure. One week later, I am down 34 pounds and doing rather well, I think. I have just 5 days until my WLS in Elmira with Dr. Galo Grijalva. I am so excited and eager to get started - I can't stand it!
The only concern I have is that after I wake up from surgery, (from past experience), I am EXTREMELY dry! I know I won't be able to drink a lot of water after this surgery like I have in the past. And, in the past, if I don't get enough to drink to wet my pallete, I begin to gag, which I know is also not good.
Anyone have any similar experiences?

Hey Jean!
They'll give you ice chips right after the surgery, but just let them melt in your mouth before swallowing. That helps with the dryness. The ice can make your stomach cramp though so remember to melt them first.
Also, ask for the gliserine swabs. They are lemon-lime flavored and used to swab your mouth. They take some of the dryness away.
I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to see you! I won't be able to go to C's on Sunday though :(
