anybody from Buffalo, Ny????????? or near here
My advice is to research all four of the big weight loss surgeries (band, RNY, DS, and VSG) to see which one's best for you, then look for a surgeon that does that type of surgery. The surgeons will try and talk you into whichever type of surgery they specialize in, which may not be the best one for you. There are pros and cons to each, with the band being least invasive but also having the highest regain stats, to the DS, which is the most complicated of the surgeries but the best stats for amount of initial weight loss and maintenance of weight loss, plus has the easiest long term lifestyle. Go to each of the surgical forums here and read about what those posters are eating and what they're saying about their surgeries. You might also want to check out the failed weight loss surgery forum to see which surgeries have the most complications and failures.
Best wishes, and welcome again to OH! You've come to the right place!!!
I am usually seen by the P.A.; she and I spoke in the past about bariatric surgery and I believe that she or her office has referred patients for the surgery.
If Orchard Park is too far from where you live, you can find primary care physicians listed by city/town here: http://www.chsbuffalo.org/Facilities/PrimaryCare. These are physicians who are affiliated with Catholic Health (where I work), but you can also find primary care doctors in Buffalo by doing a Google search: http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS266&q=primary+care+doctors%2C+Buffalo&aq=f&oq=&aqi=.
You will probably want to choose a physician that accepts your insurance. When I made Dr. Dilamarter my primary care doctor, I went to the website for my insurance provider and was able to change my primary care doctor online. You may be able to do the same.
Hi Sagittarius,
You can get a lot of information from Dr. Carauna's office about their gastric bypass support group meetings. The are held at his Williamsville NY office. I'm sure someone there could steer you to a PCP that makes the necessary referrals. If you want email Dr. Caruana's PA - Marc at :
[email protected]
I'm sure Marc would gladly tell you the dates and times the support group meets. This would be information for Synergy Bariatrics.
There is also a Dr. Alan Posner at Buffalo General Hospital and they too have support meetings/informational sessions. If you call Buffalo General and ask for the Bariatric Coordinator there ...you can get information on their program.
Both bariatric units are affiliated with the Kalieda Health group and I'm sure either Sisters Hospital or Buffalo General Hospital will supply you with the information you seek. Good luck to you :-)!!! You're only a few phone calls away from the information you seek ~
The web address for Synergy is www.buffalobariatrics.com.
I'm from Buffalo (Cheektowaga) and I've been attending the support groups at Synergy. The gastric bypass group meets every other Tuesday at 6 PM. Everyone there is WONDERFUL and i've learned so much already. I'm actually meeting with Dr. Caruana today for the first time.
Anyhow, Highgate medical group-Dr. David Pawlowski, another PCP you may want to call is Jericho rd. family practice-Dr. Thurlow 716-881-6191
Good Luck with everything. What surgery are you looking to do?
I did go to Rochester (what a drive even from where I live) and saw Dr. Di Bennedetto (good surgeon) crappy bedside manner so I went to Synergy. Hope all goes well for you.
