Hello New York, i am a native New Yorker myself and relocated to Baltimore in 03. I had RNY surgery on 7/28/09 and could not be happier with my results thus far.  I know you've heard it so many times b4 but "I Luv MY RNY".

Ok OHer's in the NYC, i need your help for my daughter who currently lives in NY and is looking to research a Surgeon for WLS.  She lives in Bronx, NY, and works in Manhattan.  Due to her busy work schedule the only WLS Seminar she has found takes place on her late work day which is Thursdays.

Please, can anyone recommend a Really, Good Surgeon and another day that his/her Seminar might be held during the week so that my daughter can attend a Seminar and get the ball rolling.  We really need your support NY and thank you for any information you can lend us in support of this post.

Good Luck to all of you anticipating Surgery and those of you that have had your surgeries.

Lenox Hill hospital has a reputable program.  I think they meet Teusdays.  nycbariatrics.com  Had I done my procedure in ny this would have been my first choice.

Hi!

I recommended Mount Sinai Hospital on 98th street. I had my surgery there and would not have gone anywhere else. My surgeon was Dr. Herron and he is a *****y man who keeps everything 100% truthful and realistic. There website is www.surgicallyslim.com and there are other drs. in the practice that I hear nothing but good things about.

I also live in the bronx. How old is your daughter? If she is on the younger side (in her 20's) and would like to talk to someone in the same age group whose been through surgery tell her to feel free to contact me. She can also email me at [email protected]. That is my personal email.

Folks can give you recommendations for programs and surgeons, I caution picking one based on when you can go though. WLS is a process that takes TIME, EFFORT and MONEY and is about taking time for ourselves and making us first. IF we start out not taking the time we need it potentially could be a slippery slope of not ever truly taking the time we need to be healthy and successful.
I wish her well...............................She is worth the investment in herself time off from work and all...

Carol....please take the time to meet Dr. Shawn Garber.
Some will say "Oh he's too full of himself" (even I have said it!!!) but his record is fantastic and he's always on top of the newest/latest/greatest updates in the Bariatric Field.

My sister used his partner, Dr. Spencer Holover, (due to health insurance coverage) and couldn't have been happier.

I interviewed THREE Surgeons before selecting Dr. Garber (Garber....NOT Dr. Graber, a totally different doctor). He is well-known and even a mentor to many of his colleagues.

Best of luck.....keep us posted!

Hugs,
Karen

I recommend Dr. George Fielding - at NYU's program for surgical weight loss.  He and his staff are awesome!  Top notch doctors and aftercare is awesome.  He has a lap band himself, which gives a lot of credence to his beliefs about WLS.

I was banded April 20, 2009.

258.5/194.5/159

April 8, 2009  = 258.5

April 20, 2009 = 244 lb.s (lost 14 lbs./surgery date)

First Fill May 19, 2009 (3cc's)

June 8, 2009 = 226.5 lbs. (lost 32 lbs.)

October 5, 2009 = 201 lbs (lost 57.5 lbs.)

Nov. 27, 2009 = 198 lbs. (lost 60.5 lbs.)

May 23, 2010 = 194.5 (65 lbs. lost)
