Metal staples found on xray 3 years post op RNY

So I don't remember the surgeon telling me I'd have permanent metal staples in my belly... Today I had an x-ray review on my lower back and what appears on the xray but metal staples.  I was alarmed and surprised by this... not that I'm having any problems but.... is that normal?  I'll be calling my surgeon tomorrow to ask.

Love to hear feedback!

We all have staples.  That is how they do the Gastric Bypass.  They staple our stomach.  They use a type of metal that we can have an MRI though.  I have had 2 MRI's since my surgery if that is what you are concerned about.  I actually had one today.

Staples are the norm, handsewing sutures is not.

It is fine to call surgeon though; what I recommend to all postops though is get a copy of your surgical report for future need. No telling what benefit it may provide years down the road if you have comoplications and your surgeon is no longer in practice etc. All we have to do is fill out a Release of Info at hospital we had surgery at and ask for it! (may cost 75cents page or so at some places)...I hope others read this advice as well.....Being on boards 7+ yrs seeing all the issues revisioners encounter when surgeon not in practice and issues arise and what benefit a surgical report may give!!! Be well.
