Hello this is my first time on the site.  I am in the post op process, and waiting for my endoscopy and then surgery date.  I have consider this for one year.  My sister had her rny 3wks ago, doing fine.  I am taking my time with scheduling appts.  I lost some weight just thinking about the rny, which is something i have not ever been able to do in the past.  Im from the Bx and Dr. Gibss is my  sur, my BMI decreased to 38 from a 40.  still waiting for a decision.

Welcome to OH!

Congrats on your decision--I know it must've been hard--it was for me!
Also, congrats to your sister! It's wonderful that you can be a support system for each other! My parents and I all had RNY, so it's great that we can ask questions of one another and just do this together. =)

Well, best of luck to you! Do your appointments in your own time, whatever makes your confortable. You'll get there! And, until then, keep coming back here for info and support!

There's also the RNY board..it moves muuuuch faster than this one. =)

Hugs, Heather =)

Welcome to Oh lil Sis.  And of course you meant that you're pre-op.

This is the place to find an overwhelming array of new friends and supporters in your journey towards RNY or any WLS.

Good Luck, glad you finally made it here. Looking forward to sharing WLS experiences with you - if you decide that it really is for you.  You'll make up your own mind in time.  Luv u!

Hi there!

I'm a friend of Venita's from the Maryland Board, consequently, you normally wouldn't find me over here on the NY forum, even though they seem equally welcoming!!

The decision to have wls surgery is an intensely personal one - although your decision may be fueled by your desire to play with children, retire and travel with hubby or whatever, it ULTIMATELY has to be for you.

I had RNY 4 years ago - I've lost 140 pounds, and although I'm not yet where I want to be, it's the best decision I ever made.  My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

You are more than welcome to join us on the Maryland forum as well; we're delighting in Venita's success and I KNOW you'd find just a warm welcome as she hopefully has!!

Good luck and hugs,

Tia

Hello & welcome!
I am also a friend of your sisters from the MD board, and do not frequent the NY board.
RNY is definitely a life change.....I just had mine on June 26th. It has been such a ride! I was scared in the beginning, but now that I am where I am, I am excited! In about 6 weeks, I have lost 42 pounds! Never before have I had success like this!
Its a tough decision to make....... but you will do whats right for you!
Good luck & God bless!
Hope to see you on the Md. board sometime!

Welcome to the NY Forum!
Hi, my name is Leslie, I was born in NY, but now I live in Maryland, where I am a member of the O H MD forum. Your sister, Venita has rallied the troops to give you a heartfelt HELLO!  I think it's great that  you have lost weight and dropped your BMI pre op. I had my WLS this past Feb.24, and there is really only 1 negative issue when I think of my experience, The issue would be that I waited so long to start a new life for myself. Having Bariatric surgery is probably the most important decision I have ever made for myself. I wish you luck, and I'm sure your sister will keep us posted on your journey. Stay well, and you are a very lucky lady, having 2 states cheering you on. Sending you good thoughts and prayers from Maryland, home to the Baltimore RAVENS  and the Baltimore  ORIOLES .   Take Care , Leslie:)
