Anyone have Dr. Alexander Barkan

Hello OH Fam, 

Do anyone have or had Dr. Alexander Barkan with the Winthrop Surgical Assoc. in Mineola, NY?  I met with him a couple of times and he seems very knowledgeable and personable.  However, I want to know about anyone else experience.  The office staff is great no question about that and the coordinator Karen is awesome.

My paper work has been submitted just waiting for my approval and surgery date.  If anyone would like to share that would be great.

Ive spoken to you before - I had Dr Brathwaite - his partner - although I have no experience with Barkan I can tell you that the nurses and staff at Winthrop Hospital were awesome  - I had my surgery on the 10th of June and went home on the 12th.  I was up and walking within the hour after my surgery.  GET UP AND OUT OF BED ASAP.  Also be careful of the Kozy Shak Gelatin they give you - NASTY - it made me sick.  I did so well - most of the staff did not think I was a patient -I had them disconnect my IV so I could wear real clothes since I was walking more than I was in bed.

You will do great - let me know your surgery date.  Dr. Brathwaite would never have a bad doctor on his staff.  OH wait I did see Barkan - duh - he discharged me - lol.  I personally like Brathwaite's bed side manner more but I heard good things about his medical expertise.

Thanks for your response.  I kinda figured that Barkan is a tad bit dry on the compassionate side.  However, I truly feel that he is also a great surgeon because of Dr. Brathwaite's reputation.  Also, that's great 30lbs gone forever.  Look forward to hearing and seeing the WL.

Trisha, I can not say enough about Dr. Brathwaite or Winthrop Hospital. I had my surgery 02/02/09 and have lost 92 pounds, and have never been healthier. I do not know his staff in Mineola. I do know his staff in Patchogue and they are wonderful. I pray you have great success and I can tell you that Dr. B would never have anyone be his partner who is not totally on board with him.

Karen, the Mineola staff is great.  I also go to the support group in Mineola as well.  I know I'm in good hands.  Winthrop Hospital is one of the best hospitals and that's been my hospital since I was born.  Thank you so much for  your response.  I'll keep you posted on my progress.
