I received my paperwork today from Dr. Coles office with my appointments for the next couple weeks pre-op and post-op, along with my pre-op diet plan and its a normal diet to me. I eat 1 thing from the food groups, (starch, protein, milk, fruit, and fat and vegetable) and drink my 8 oz. of skim milk and or water in between meals.  I thought you had to go on a all liquid diet before surgery?  Maybe I misunderstood . I dont know. But it was a pretty simple meal plan to follow and it said do this plan at least 7 days before surgery and it was getting me ready for developing good eating after surgery. So Im kinda like okay but I was just curious about the whole thing I guess.

That is cool that you don't have to do the liquid diet pre-surg.  You are getting closer and closer to being on the losers bench.  Best wishes to you!  Julie

email LisaRae and ask her if she had to do one through Arnot... then call on Monday to have them clarify...

I have read though that some surgeons don't do the liquid diet, so maybe you got lucky!  Seems to me though with the bowel being operated on that a liquid diet would be necessary... it's been a while since I worked in the medical field though so maybe that isn't true anymore?

I had my rny on 6-1-09 at Yale with Dr. Duffy.  I did not have to do a liquid diet before surgery.  The day before I Just had to eat lightly and no food or drink after midnight, but I stopped at 7pm just to be sure.  The Dr. also said please, no last meal!
I have lost 23 lbs since surgery. Liquids for 2 weeks and then I began food.

Good Luck to you!!
Laura

Not all programs require liquid diets. Mine requires a 10% weight loss before surgery and they help you do that through healthy eating plans and medication if your having too much trouble. They reason that you will do better after the surgery if you start learning the new habits before it.

Now if you are talking the days right before the surgery, definately get that clarified. At the very least the day before you need to be on liquids. I was able to eat regular food right up to the day before surgery.
