My insurance only covered my psych.  I had to pay for the nut.  However, if I had diabetes they would have paid for the nut. as well.

Shammy,

I checked my insurance online information and my insurance shows that it will cover the nut for 2 yearly visits 100%.  The psych it looks like I will have a $25 copay.  Will probably know more next month when I go for my 4 hr. group on July 14.

If you don't mind me asking...what type of policy did you get with Emblem(aka GHI)? I got the sole proprietor HSA,which means a high deductible, lower premium...I will have to pay 5800.then after that 100%..as far as I know and was told by my agent.I haven't received a booklet or anything yet.I hope he wasn't lying to me..anyhow my coverage isn't good until July 1st.Good Luck to ya and keep in touch.Pm me anytime.

Hi Kim, I have GHI/Emblem Health PPO through my employer.  I don't pay anything for it at all and prior to starting this process, I LOVED it!  I have never had to pay for a Rx and only had to cover $20 for my PCP visits.  There are many many variations of GHI--it's so confusing!

Yesterday they told me they would cover the nut appts only if I was a diabetic.  Apparently, they feel that morbidly obese people don't need to see a dietitian! LOL  My insurance in TX (Aetna) was the same way!  They also said they would cover the visits w/ the social worker only if she is "in-network".  I looked up her name on the site and didn't see it but I was also told that if it was billed under Dr. Cole's tax id and he IS an in-network provider then it would be covered.  Confusing stuff to say the least!  Who knows if it will be covered, I'm just planning on footin' the entire bill.

I don't want to freak you out b/c like I said, there are sooo many variations with GHI.  Just keep calling and asking questions.  I like sending emails to them because then I have it in writing and also have the first/last name of the rep *****plied.

Yesterday a manager from their pre-cert dept called me back and confirmed that they did recently change their policy regarding the required 6 mth phys. supervised diet.  They said they no longer "require" it but they want to see that a significant attempt has been made to lose weight.  I'm stickin' to the 6 mth diet.  I don't want to take any chances.

Empire BC/BS so far has not balked at anything. Only had co-pays for doctors, nut, psych etc. No copay or deductable for hospital. And they approved my surgery in 24 hours from submission. Can't complain.
