revisions
I had the gastric bypass over 17 years ago and 4-5 years ago I started gaining weight again. Since then I have a hyatial hernia and my doctor wanted me to get an upper GI because I was havign other problems, it came back that the area where they closed off in my intestines is leak ing and the doctor said I may be a good canidate for a revision. I would love to have this done but not sure what they really do. Do they go back in and redo the bypass? are there different kinds of revisions? If so which seem to be the best?
Also, I have MVP Gold anywhere for insurance which is a medicare replacement PPO any ideas on who would take it in the Central New York area? I'm willing to travel from Rochester to Syracuse, Ithaca areas. Can anyone help?
I need to find a surgeon soon because my doctor said that surgeon would be the one to fix the hernia as well and I've been in pain from it all.

Carolyn,
Here is some information for you.
Dr. Mecenas of Surgical Associates of Ithaca, is an excellent surgeon. The phone number is 207 273-3161
You can find more information at the website:
http://ithacasurgeons.com/
I lead the two support groups but have no involvement with any office particulars, so you will have to contact them.
Dr. Mecenas has been my surgeon for the past 3 years. After meeting people from many other areas, I have to say HE IS THE BEST!!
Good luck with your search. If you want more information, let me know and I'll try to answer questions.

thanks for the information. I think you meant the area code is 607? I checked him out and have to say I'm a little nervous his site says he's only done 35 of those surgeries. The guy in Rochester I was referred to has done over 2000.
How long does it take to get through the process with him? I was really hoping to get it done by summer. Its definate;y different from the last time. I had my surgery within 3 weeks. From what I can see it is now a very long process.

Carolyn,
Sorry, it is area code 607. my goof.
Dr Mecenas does NOT pass us through the process quickly. He insists that we are first very well educated about the entire life changes we will encounter. He ensures that we are good medical candidates, which means a few tests so he doesn't encounter any surprises in the OR.
There are people in the support group who had surgeries done by other surgeons. Without fail, they say that the educational part of the process is a most important aspcet of WLS. That part was missing in their previous experience. Education, not speed makes a difference.
I know it is a bit of a drive for you but come to any of our support meetings and talk to his patients. If you want more information let me know.

hi, thanks I did call them and downloaded all the paperwork. I have talked with a friend and she suggested that maybe I go to both seminars and see what they are like. So I am going to a couple different seminars and leanr as much as I can and see what doctor I am most comfortable with. thanks for the help.
