Office Staff at NYU

I am currently in the process of trying to get a lap band at NYU. While I love Dr. Fielding and their after care program, I am not thrilled about their office staff. I have left two messages with the surgical coordinator to confirm she got the fax number for my insurance's pre-certification department and no response. Yesterday, my PCP faxed them some additional paperwork, which NYU requested. They never got it. Finally, after the second fax, it was received. I know they have a VERY busy practice, but this is very annoying, especially since I am trying to get this surgery done before my parents leave for China (April 6th). Does anyone have any suggestions?

No suggestions, but I can sympathize.  I loved Dr. Ren and I'm thrilled with my RNY, but dealing with the surgical coordinator was pure hell.  I was scheduled for surgery on a Monday Morning and she was still working on getting my insurance approval on Friday night.  She never returned my phone calls and it was very frustrating.  If I didn't like Dr. Ren so much, that would have been enough to make me change surgeons.

Whenever I am dealing with people like this, I hand carry everything.  I ask for copies of all referrals, lab results or anything else.  That way they can not say that they don't have it - I can give them another copy.  Good luck.
