Well you have to promise to come back and tell me what happens.  I am glad that my misfortune was your gain lol. ;)

For the first time, I am finally past my point of fear about this surgery.  We'll have to keep in touch :D

I have Johnson as a surgeon,  I had my surgery Sept 16th.  Make sure you have all your tests results in.  I had to have sleep study and ekg and pulmonary function test done, I had them done much earler but did not bring results with me, so had to wait for them to be faxed and looked at.  This takes time.  so if you havent had any done call and ask if you need them.  I wish i had brought my results with me the day of my consult because it delayed me.  I had my consult in May and didnt have my surgery until sept.

Just following up, as promised!  I had my one-on-one with O'Malley today and I was scheduled to have my DS on the next open day:  April 8!  So just about seven weeks.

Yay for you!!!!! :D :D  You must be so psyched to have a date finally!!!  Maybe we will both be done in April.

I was interested in DS, but someone told me O'Malley didn't do it so I didn't pursue it any further.  He is doing DS for you???  i wonder if I should ask him about it..hmmmm lol

Thanks again for letting me know :)  Keep in touch!

Thanks!  I'm excited, for sure - also nervous, but that too shall pass!  Now I'm just waiting for insurance approval.  Keep your fingers crossed for me, and I'll do the same for your date, too!

O'Malley DOES the do the DS, though he's only done a small handful lap.  He is, indeed, doing the DS for me, and there are a few other folks around here who have had a DS with him as well ... He really prefers doing the RNY I suspect, but there are several options!

So that's the scoop for the moment.  I'll keep in touch -- please do the same!

I am so excited to find you guys!!! I have my appt with Dr O'Malley on March 19 and I have learned so much reading your posts.  I wondered how long it would take to get a surgery date too and I had no idea Dr O'Malley was now doing DS.  He didn't mention it as an option at my seminar.  I am so excited. (Did I mention that? )

I can't wait to read more about how you guys are doing.  Are the rest of you near Rochester?  I'm about 2.5 hours away, outside Ithaca, NY but my insurance will only cover the surgery at Highland, but I think this is a good thing.

Thanks for starting this thread.

I called Dr O'Malley's office this morning because I didn't know if I was supposed to have my EKG, sleep test and blood work done before this appt, but they said no he would send me for those between this appt and surgery.

Does anyone have any idea how many lap-DS Dr O'Malley does?  I really really would prefer lap over open.  I've had both kinds of surgeries before (appendicitis & c-section-open and gall bladder removal-lap) and lap surgery rocks!  I was shocked how much easier it was.  So if it's a choice between open-DS and lap-RNY I will need to give it some thought.

I guess Dr O'Malley will answer these questions for me March 19, but I wanted to know what you all had heard from him.

Thanks!

BrighterPath - Are you definitely getting the DS?  I have been looking into it and wishing I'd researched it more.  I was told O'Malley didn't do the DS and the only surgeons I could find online were quite a distance from me, so I have only researched the RNY LOL.

I am so nervous for my appointment next week...and excited.  I am afraid of gaining weight though.  I went on a cruise last week and while I was still pretty good with my eating, I did NO exercise unless it was something I had to do (like walking lol).

I don't know for sure yet.  Someone else told me that Dr O'Malley is listed somewhere as being a recommended surgeon for DS.  At my seminar in September he only mentioned the RNY and lapband, but said that we could decide which one we wanted right up until the surgery.  I was just planning on asking him about it March 19th at my appt.  I'm debating whether to call and ask the receptionist, but I haven't gotten terribly useful information from them and my insurance will only cover surgery at Highland so I'm kind of stuck either way.

I really really hope he is doing this.
