Hey! You! Get off Your Pink Cloud

Did you know you can be more successful with weight loss surgery if you get off your pink cloud before it gets too comfortable?
We all love that pink cloud, don't we? It's a soft place to land after enduring the hardship of obesity. Many of us don't feel hunger during our early post-op, pink-cloud phase. We eat our "fill" and lose weight. Our clothes seem to drop sizes constantly.
Wonderful gratification. There are a precious few for whom the pink cloud never leaves, but for most of us it drifts away sooner or later.
So instead of lounging on your pink cloud, pretending you are cured of your overeating and obesity, you might want to consider "acting as if."
Act as if you are not cured, because eventually the pink-cloud feeling goes away for most of us. Then we need to know how to cope with what follows. But how do we "act as if" in preparation for what follows?
1. Review the dietary guidelines given to you by your surgeon or nutritionist frequently, and eat according to their suggestions. The pink-cloud phase is not the time to experiment with what you can get away with eating. It is the time to change eating habits altogether.
2. Attend a support group and pay close attention to the challenges mentioned by people further out from surgery. Use what you learn to prepare yourself for what lies ahead.
3. Practice self honesty. Weigh once a week and mark your progress on a chart. When you have reached your goal weight, continue to weigh weekly so that you know how your eating and exercise are affecting your weight.
What's that you say? You want to just lie back and enjoy your pink cloud? It's okay to lounge around in the pink fluff--just don't get too comfortable. Have a few moments of bliss and jump right back down to earth. You won't regret it in the long run.
