Im looking for a surgeon in the Capital Region area. Im from a small town located near Catskill, NY. Its about an 45min drive to either the Albany or Poughkeepsie area. Im wondering where my better bet would be to look for a surgeon. Im in the beginning stages of finding one. Any help would be great! Thanks

I can personally recommend Ellis Bariatric Center / Ellis Hospital.  There are 3 surgeons there,
Dr. Terence Clarke, Dr. Vishnudas Panemanglore and Dr. Malene Ingram (female).  My PCP referred me there - I had my surgery 2 weeks ago today.  Wonderful caring staff at the office and at the hospital.

There is also a Dr. at  Albany Med that I have heard good things about but I don't know his name - I'm sure someone who went to him will reply to you also.

If you're interested the phone # at Ellis Bariatric is 518-243-1313.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Ditto... The surgeons at Ellis are WONDERFUL.. I have my 1 year appointment with Dr. Clarke this morning and can not say enough wonderful praises about each and eveyone in their practice. You would be in wonderful hands.

The first thing you would need to do is call and schedule for the seminar... and then it goes from there.

 Good Luck..

I had surgery at albany medical center and it was a very good experience.  that staff was very helpful and the hospital stay was good.  it took 6 months from my initial appointment to surgery.

I, too, like many of the others *****plied have gone through Ellis Hospital's program (Dr Clarke did my surgery & he is awesome in my opinion!)  http://www.ellishospital.org/bariatric/bariatric.htm
Please check them out along with a few others. It is very important to feel comfortable with whomever you choose. You are going to see them quite a bit during this journey  - maybe even more than your own family... or at least it'll feel that way!! LOL!!! For me they were the ones who made me feel like I could do this & not ashamed of what I had done to myself by gaining so much weight over the years.

Make sure you do as much research as you can too. Check out all types of surgery options & be as prepared as you can before you get there! You will need to attend some type of seminar or orientation before even seeing the surgeon in most cases so get that part done with now so you know exactly what lies ahead of you. This is not a process that will be over with quickly but the time will fly once you get started!!

Good luck!!!

I'm from the Poughkeepsie area and just had surgery two weeks ago. There are really no surgeons that I know of in Poughkeepsie, but you may want to give Obesity Surgery Associates in Westchester a try. Their doctors are very experienced (Drs. Cerabona and Kaul), and they are the only practice in this area (including the Capital Region) that are certified a Center for Excellence by HealthGrades (a medical evaluation service that uses complication rates, etc. to grade physicians).  The phone number for their practice is 914-347-0162.
