Syracuse Gastro Doc familiar w/Duodenal Switch?

Hi - I had a DS 4 years ago, done in Manhattan by Drs. Pomp and Gagner. I've had a variety of issues but have stabilized at 165 lbs. lost, with good labs and good health except for raging acid reflux. I went off of Nexium, finally, last fall and found it really helped the chronic diarrhea, but now the heartburn is awful. I'm looking for a gastroenterologist in Syracuse who would be familiar with the Duodenal Switch, as the one I saw a few years ago really wasn't terribly well-informed. I'd rather not be the guinea pig for someone! Going to NYC isn't an option.

Thanks in advance, also if you have any suggestions or ideas about the heartburn.

Who is it that you have seen?

I honestly don't remember! It was right after my surgery, and while they were very nice, they were pretty clueless. I'd just rather go to someone who's seen someone other than me with this surgery. I'd like to be able to discuss it and have them know what I'm talking about, rather than getting that "deer in the headlights" look, or acting as if they understand perfectly, but then refer to my problems as if I'd had the RNY! The 2 surgeries are pretty different...

Hi Debbie.....so sorry to hear about your raging acid reflux....I do hope that through these boards you can find a great doctor in Syracuse. I am thinking of revision from lap band to DS.....people talk about this acid reflux....can you tell me your story on this. I am exploring all the pro's and con's.....thanks in advance.....Susan

Hi Susan - I had the reflux before the surgery, so don't think the DS has anything to do with it. Good luck with your choice -

Debbie
