I spent my weekend watching Big Medicne and I could help but notice all the successful patients have tummy tucks. Is that the norm...can we lose the weight and not need the tuck....if I was to do a lot of exercise would it be possible to avoid that?????? Just wondering.

Wow.. I have the exact same questions. I see so many after pictures and wonder what kind of people had to deal with really bad sagging skin. My main problem is going to be my lower belly area.  I would also like to hear from some people who have maybe excelled physically in other ways.  I'd love to become a fitness trainer or something like that. To hear stories from people who have become extremely athletic would be so awesome and motivating.

You should check out the exercise board, there are people doing all kinds of amazing things including triathlons. I did the nyc marathon in 2007.

Excess skin is really a matter of age, genetics and luck. For those who are younger and haven't gone up and down with their weight, the skin elasticity may be better. As I mentioned, there is the issue of genetics - some people just do better than others with the skin. Exercise really doesn't help with the excess skin issue. Best of luck to you!

Anythung is possible, probable no, realtity is we have damaged skin from our obesity. Some folks have different degrees of excess, PS is a personal decision not all have it even if they could....We fit in our skin unhealthfully or dont fit in it more healthfully!

Age, genetics overall wt gained/lost etc play a role as others mentioned, best bet is to guess you wil have some extent.....One site with extreme excess seek out would be: http://www.abutterflyemerges.com/

Getting a tummy tuck approved post-rny is not as easy as it sounds.  I am having tremendous difficulty in this area.  Since rny is growing in popularity and tummy tucks are also getting demanded, insurance is not that likely to cover this anymore and you should definitely keep a medical history of any and all issues that arise from the hanging skin so that you are prepared to fight it.  I'm going through hell  now with the hanging skin and will probably have to live with it.  It also depends on how much weight you lose and the exercise you do along the way, the hanging skin could be minimal if all aspects are properly followed....but highly unlikely if excessive.
