psych eval
I went to see the nurse practitioner on Wednesday last week and they told me they received my psych eval in their office and that the psych wants me to have "supportive counseling" which I thought was really odd since she told me that I was an excellent candidate for surgery when I was in her office. I don;t know if they recommend this for everyone because to me supportive counseling is more like a support group type of thing which I will of course continue with.
How ever, the practioner didnt seem phased by it and I supposed I passed because she wrote in the letter that the counseling would prepare me for surgery.
In good news, I have everything I needed to get done- done. Just waiting on my PCP to get the results of my blood test/EKG and write my letter of medical necessity and get them over the the surgeons office and I'll be all set to submit everything to the insurance company/
Has anyone else been told by the psych they should have "supportive counseling"???
Thanks!
J

Hi J,
Yes, I've just been told that I have to do two months of supportive counseling before I can even be cleared to have a consult with the surgeon. I have to set goals and attain them to prove that I have my emotional eating under control. I have passed everything else, and was quite disappointed that I wouldn't be seeing the surgeon for another 2 months plus. However, I know that it is in my best interest to do the counseling as it will unltimately help me be successful in living the lifestyle after the surgery.
I began my journey on February 2nd and had hoped to at least have surgery scheduled by now. But I guess the Lord had other plans for me and HE knows what's best.
Hang in there. KarenB

they didnt say anything to me about emotional eating or anything. they told me it was in preparation for the surgery. I've already had the consult with the surgeon in August, met with the nurse prac. twice, and have another appointment next month. I'm just about there with everything and soon everything will go into the insurance company so this isnt stopping me from it I wondered why she would put that when she told me I was a good candidate for the surgery.
