Yesterday I went to my first appointment at the Ellis Bariatric Center... Everything went very well. I did the blood work and have my appointments set up. I knew I was going to be starting Medifast fairly soon so I was expecting them to talk to me about it. Well.. I start on Wednesday the 8th for .... 12 weeks!! What the heck, thats a long time .. I thought you're supposed to be on it for 6 weeks? .. Was anyone else on Medifast for over 6 weeks??? They said my surgery will be late december/early january.. I should be getting the exact date in about a week..

Welcome to my world!! This time last year I was finishing up my 12 wonderful weeks of medifast!!! It really wasn't too bad - I was allowed 1 lean & green meal a day at dinner time. Are you?

Stay focused on the final prize & you will do well!! It won't be easy in the beginning but if I could do you can too!! I found that if I kept the shakes as cold as possible they were easier to drink!! I couldn't add ice to them - I gagged on it!! WTF??? Add some extracts to it... raspberry & almond were my favorites (I only did chocolate - vanilla powders make me gag just from the smell - yeah, I know I'm weird!!!)

Good luck!! You're going to do just fine!!! If you need anything just holler!!!

I had RNY & weighed well over 400lbs when I started that's why I was put on it for 12 weeks. It was also a test of my commitment too & it worked!!! They have their reasons & I'm sure they don't do it just to torture us, at least not the drs at this particular practice!!

Oh good lord!  Well bless you for following that for 12 weeks.  I guess after that, the post-surgery diet must be a cake-walk for you.  In the long run, it's safer to perform surgery if someone weighs a lot less and I would imagine on 12 weeks of liquids, you dropped a lot!

Congrats!

I have my appt on the 16th of this month. I hope I don't have to wait that long! I am a lightweight(about 215lbs at 5'2"). If I am on Medifast for 12 weeks I probably won't need the surgery!!
I called my insurance company and they have no requirements so it is not the insurance company that would require something like this. UGHHHH! How much weight do you have to lose?? Maybe the length of Medifast depends on this??
I am also an Ellis Bariatric pt. I was at the info session in August(was it August?).
I guess the time will go by fast. When you said surgery in December that doesn't sound too far away.

i think i had it for 4 wks, but it all depends on how big u are and how big ur liver is. medifast is just their way of making u lose some weight for their surgical benefit and ur benefit and the health of the liver..
Goodluck!

hi i too was only on medifast for 4 weeks. i did not have Dr Clarke i had Dr. panamenglore
(AWESOME DR. )I guess they must feel that is what you need to make you safe for surgery and increase your chances of success. Trust them they are all sooo great. i made it threw the process with out one hurdle. December will be here before you know it. You have a ton of appointments to get through prior to your surgery. Be patient and know you are in great hands. I am very early out and looking back it seemed like a whirlwind.
best of luck

Hello,

I was on Medifast for 6 weeks, but as with everything else, everyone is different.   I had Dr. P., at that time I did not know how I would get through it, but look at the end result - you will be healthy and more than ready for the surgery.   It shows your determination and that you are ready to have the surgery, you will lose weight, skrink that liver and be more than ready!   I had the lean and green each night and looked forward to it, the time goes by fast and you will have lots of appointments.   The staff in the office is more than helpful not to mention the support you get here. Keep up posted on your progress
