New foods
I have been reading about all the foods that are being tried and wondering if I should be eating more variety. My surgery was on June 27th so I am five weeks out. I do eat all my protein but as of yet I cannot eat chicken or egg. I am afraid to try beef or pork. (I take that back I did try one meatball over the weekend and ended up getting sick). So far my potein intake consist of my unjury shake in the am., yogart, shrimp, scallops, Morning star-black bean burgers, weigh****cher's cheese sticks, and protein bars. I haven't really tried fruits or vegetables as it is too early for that, I thought. I feel good, my weight loss is going great (including my 2 week pre-op diet I am down 55 pounds). I am just looking forward to more variety. What was everyone else eating? Any suggestions?

Dawn,
Congrats - you are doing great!!! Keep up the good work!!!
I hear ya - the variety, or lack thereof, in the beginning can be tough but hang in there. That meatball you ate probably was too dense for you to handle. Chicken can be the same way for some folks. I was eating eggs & veggies right away so check with your dr about the veggies. I think I ate a lot of green beans... overcooked of course but they were green nonetheless!! Here are a few of the other things I think I ate early out...
~ try ground turkey - it's less dense than ground beef & just by it's nature it breaks down into smaller pieces when you brown it. I would add gravy & veggies to it or try spaghetti sauce & ricotta, mozz & parm cheese for a mock lasagna type dish (even brown up a turkey italian sausage too). I also added taco seasoning, shredded cheese & some kidney beans for a mexican twist. Keep it moist. I don't buy the leanest one - it was too dry for me but I get the next one, 95 I think - check out the numbers on the package. I buy it so often you'd think I'd know for the number for sure!! I always have to look before I grab it!!
~ If you like fish try talapia, cod or haddock. I only like Pacific or Alaskan Wild salmon & it's tough to find in this area so I stick with the other white fish! I bake it in the oven in with either lemon, garlic & dill or (an old WW recipe - I do mean old!!) with some low-sodium V8 juice & garlic, onion & pepper - sometimes even cayenne pepper. I also buy Gortons Grilled fish fillets in the freezer section. Each fillet is about 3.5 oz, 17-18g protein & pretty low in fat. They have several flavors & I like them all so far!! It's a go-to item in my freezer at all times!! I eat fish at least 3 times a week.
These are just a couple ideas for you. Give them a try. Good luck!!
