Dr. Caruana Synergy Bariatrics Buffalo

 I need to talk to those of you who had roux-en-Y with Dr. Caruana.  How long ago?  How are you doing?  Are you pleased with him as a doctor?  Thanks.

I had surgery with Dr. Caruana last May (5/10/2007).  I am down 126 pounds with 1 pound to go to my personal goal.  I am thrilled with my result.  I was very lucky and had no complications.  The Synergy Group was great...and Dr. Caruana was very professional and I feel did a great job.  I am older (56 now)..and my recovery..I won't lie was hard...but, I followed the rules and am feeling like a million!

Thank you so much for your letter.  I really appreciate it.  I chose Dr. Caruana because of proximity to my home and because his is a center of excellence (whatever that means), but I got nervous when I couldn't find anyone at obesityhelp.com who had him.  He reports having done 3000 RNY's, which is more than any of the others, so why I can't find his patients, I'm not sure.  However, your letter has relaxed me.

I am 64 years old and have a number of comorbidities, so he is recommending Open RNY, but then again, he only does 'open'.  Can you please tell me how you found him, why you chose to have it 'open', and if you recall, how long you were under the anesthetic?  

I expect a difficult recovery, but please tell me, without complications, what exactly made your recovery difficult, and how long after surgery would you say you felt pretty good.  If you'd like to email me directly my email address is [email protected].  Thanks again.

Hi Rosemary,
I had surgery on 6-23-08 with Dr. Caruana. I think he is absolutely wonderful and would recomend him to anyone. I also know several people who have had him. I chose open RNY because I was only under anesthesia for about and 1 and a half hours. I heard lap is much longer and that scared me.  So far, everything has gone well for me!
I think you made a great choice!

I love him and owe my life to him. I chose him because of his skill and experience. I believe he is the guy to go to in the Buffalo area. The practice has everything you need -- it is a very comprehensive program. All the "rules" are clearly spelled out for you in the informational folder. That will be your bible during the whole process. The support group is wonderful.

I had my surgery on March 25, 2008 -- so it was just 4 months. I have lost a total of 75 lbs. so far. I am off my blood pressure meds completely (had been on them for over 15 years!). Hi Miriam,
I had open RNY with Dr. Caruana on November 5th and I couldn't be happier.  I've lost 102 lbs. so far and have had no complications at all.  My recovery went very well, never took any pain meds, and have had excellent bloodwork results.  Synergy is very clear on the steps of the process.  Dr. Caruana has a very good support team, which are the ppl I've dealt with in my follow-up visits.  Please feel free to ask away if you ahve other questions.  :)

My friend, comet1976 and I both used Synergy Bariatrics  5/2008 (Lap RNY's), but we used Caruanna's former partner Dr. Panemanglore. However, our surgeon left there shortly after our first post op visit. Caruanna did visit me once in the hospital and I have seen him for after care visits twice. My boss & her friend had their open RNY's with Dr. Caruanna 4+ yrs. ago. We have all done well and continue to do so. He is very experienced and his staff are fantastic. I have heard nothing but good about him & his team. I think you're in good hands! ~April
