Bandster Failure

This is difficult but it must be said. I had my band on 1/25/06 and lost 60 lbs but never got to goal. The stress of divorce is killing my spirit and my drive. I am now up about 15 lbs. If thats not enough the leader of my support group decided it was ok to take on my ex  as a client in her private practice and I feel betrayed. I have not been to a support group in over 6 months. I feel like I am drowning in my own pitty party. Kenny

Hi Kenny. You are NOT a failure. It sounds like your support group leader is a failure when I comes to ethics.

I do know how you feel about failing at the band, if you read my profile, you'll see that I no longer could use mine as a tool. Luckily, you still have yours available to you.

You took the first step in posting here, and I know that must have been hard.

You CAN get back on track. Please keep posting & let us know how you're doing.

Oh Kenny, I'm so sory for the difficult time you are going through! An emotional upheaval like you're going through would wreak havo on each and every one of us.  I would so ditch that support goup leader and vent a little o that totally justified feeling of betrayal with a letter to her supervisor and/or board of ethics! That behavior is just wrong. Meanwhile, pull up your bootstraps and hang back here with folks *****ally care, who are in the throes of this battle every day, and who will do all they can to help you succeed. You can do this! And try to do everything you can to find another support group, maybe through your surgery center? Good Luck, Friend! Laurie

Kenny;      Please don't be so hard on yourself.  I couldn't imagine going through the recovery and trials of WLS while going through a divorce also.   The divorce itself was hard enough for me.  I am sure I am not as strong as you and could do both.

Is there another support group you can attend?  Not sure what area you are in.   You have every reason to feel betrayed.   Unfortuntelly some put money before loyalty.  I would think that you could get back on board with your weight loss.   It is never to late to start back up again.   It sounds as if you are a very strong person.   Good luck and don't ever hesitate to get on the board and ask for help.   Sally

Hi Kenny, Don't give up!  Where do you live?  We have a nice support group on LI which meets every other Sat morning (its bariatric all types).  Its at Good Samaritan Hosp in W Islip.  Theres also a lapband group on LI as well.  If you want any info, please let me know. I've been at a plateau since December, then I finally decided to go back to my surgeons office and got the lecture and hand slap I badly needed (and a small fill) and I have lost 5 lbs since.  This was the boost I needed to get me back on track. Also  - have you been to the Lapband Message board here on OH?  I don't think I've seen you there!    Come on over!   Hang in there!  You are NOT a failure!

Hi Sharon There's a bariatric support group at Good Samaritan Hospital on Montauk Hwy in West Islip that meets every other Sat morning from 9am-10:30.  Several members of OH go to this one.  The next meeting is Aug 11th.  There's also a lapband group that Ron put together.  He posted the info on the NY message board and the lapband message board here on OH.  These locations may be too far for you.  But if you need directions or info, let me know. Dee PS  - You probably know that Dr Geiss has a few support groups at North Shore Hosp in Syosset for his patients only (Pre-op, Post-op and 12+ Mo Post-op) - however there is a $20 fee for these
