I Swallowed a Balloon Today
I had my second endoscopy today for my stircture. I actually thought it might have disappeared, because I haven't puked in the 2 weeks since the first endoscopy, (which was too early for balloon, he only got the scope through)just low-level, full-time nausea.
No luck, there was a stricture & he had to use the balloon. Well, all was fine till I got home; then i was in so much pain I thought I needed to go back to the hospital. I called Dr. Garber's office & they told me it can be painful. So I took tylenol, the cafarate(sp?) lied down for about an hour & finally felt better. Whew!
I also had my regularly scheduled appointment w/Dr. Garber this afternoon & asked him if I only felt nausea & not vomitting, how will I know if the stricture's gone? He said that (after 2 days on liquids/mushies) now that I'm starting real food, I'll vomit if it's there.
I also realize that after 5 weeks on mushie food, I have no idea what to eat! No shellfish, don't like regular fish--maybe I'll live on chile. I always had trouble w/chicken when I had the band, maybe it will be better now.
So, that was my day, how was yours?

Don't know about leakage, Debi, but at 3.5 weeks out, I vomited on water and on a viactive...on the viactive I thought I was having a heart attack (that pain in your chest) I called Dr. Garber and he said that strictues often happen at about 3 weeks out & to have an endoscopy. I had not vomited before or even felt nausea. At first I thought I was over-reacting, but when he said one could start at around 3 weeks out...
Besides, since the treatment is only a balloon, I pray this is the worst thing that goes wrong with me!

Karen;
I am so glad things went well for you. I hope the discomfort goes away quickly for you. As far as what to eat, I eat a lot of chicken, tender cuts of beef and pork tenderloin (done in the crockpot so it is moist and very tender. I also do fish and shrimp a little *****ate tuna and salmon though). I think it is just a very hard learning lesson. What is going to sit well and what isn't. I hope it is all good from here on out for you.
Sally
Hi Karen,
Hopefully this scope will fix the stricture once and for all.
I had one when I was just over a month out and I got so dehydrated and couldn't stop vomitting that I was hospitalized 3 times for it. You give back more than you're even taking in, or that's what it was like for me.
And nausea could last a bit longer, with or without vomiting, it's just one of the many side effects.
But I hope that you are past this and moving along now without any more bumps in the road.
Take care,
Sue
PS - my day was fine, lol. I worked, I walked, I shopped for bicycles, I picked up a Rx, just general stuff.
Thanks, guys.
Cheri, maybe the chicken is just a band thing??
Sue, that's so great about the bike, on top of all the walking you do. I'm getting my bloods done a little early cause I'm too tired to exercise more than walking 15 minutes each way from work to Penn. Just the thought of it makes me tired.
Sally, I'd welcome learning how to make beef & chicken in the crock pot (no pork recipies). I know how to make chile & there's a dish that I can make in the crock pot w/beans & beef & potatos (I wouldn't eat them, although I could eat a little sweet potato, right??) but I don't know how to make much else in there.
I think I'll sleep real well tonight, but first I want to finish Harry Potter!

I'm sorry that you had a stircture, but I"m sorta realived that I'm not the only one. I got to the point that even water was making me nausea at 3 1/2 weeks. I just thought I was a wimp and needed to suck up all the pain that I was in. When I finally called the doctor the had me get an endoscopy the very next day and ended up I had a really bad stircture and an ulcer on my new stomach. I too was put on carafate. And in 2 weeks from that had another endoscopy to balloon it up more.
Now that I"m 3 months out, I've been vomoting ocanssionally and at the end there's always blood, so I have to go for my 3rd endoscopy.
I'm excited that I'm losing weight, but upset on how much the rest of this stuff really sucks.

Karen,
I am glad you are feeling better and I hope that when you try the regular food again all is ok. I am sure it will be just fine now. You are in awesome hands with Dr Garber and Dr Holover.
Wendy's chili is just awesome and add some cheese for added protein is good as well. Also the fat free refried beans with shredded cheddar cheese on top melted.....yummmm.
I wish you all the best hun

Karen,
I hope this is the last time and that your stricture is "no more!"
keep us posted!
hugs,
Britt
