Ok I went to the dr. yesterday for the first meeting with my doctor and we got through the whole app. fine and I forgot which surgery he said he was going to do.  I am thinking he said laproscopic but I am not sure.  He did tell me I will have one insision kind of right under my breasts but in the middle and that it would be about 2 1/2 inches.  I feel so dugh, I was so nurvis I forgot what kind he said he was doing.  LOL.  Well I will be seeing him in 4 weeks so I will know for sure then.  He also said I would spend two nights as long as everything  goes right.  He gave a a folder full of stuff said read read read and read again and write every question I can think of.      Jaimee

most are done lap, they usually have you sign a consent form for the open as well because if they start the lap procedure and there are complications that prevent it from being done lap they have to open you up to finnish, but that is rare.. since he said 2 nights that is lap  open would be about 4 days

Hi, I am sure that Dr. Caruana only does the open surgery.  I had mine on 5/10...his partner used to do the lap and he's left the practice. I think Dr Caruana is an excellent surgeon...you will be in good hands. Rosemary

I bet to ease your mind you can just call his office to see what he said.  (((HUGS)))

Jaimee; If you saw Dr. C you will be having open RNY.  It is all he does.  He did mine and my daughters and we had no problems at all.   Deciding whether to have open or lap is a very personal decision.  I know what you mean about feeling nervous.  I was the same way.  I did ask a lot of questions but thought of a lot more after I left there.......lol   Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions.    Sally
