Hi everyone.  This Sunday I'm attending a bridal shower at a Chinese restaurant. It is the first time that I'll be at an event since WLS. I'm not exactly a Chinese food enthusiast and was wondering if anyone had ideas about what to eat that is on the safe side.  Diane~~

Hi Diane,
Alot of the Chinease Rest. in Bflo are buffets. I'm not sure if you know the one you are going to is, but I usually eat the crab legs and shrimp. and a salad. I am not crazy about Chinease myself. I'm not sure if that is good for you after WLS ....I know alot of there food has msg which isn't really good for anyone.

Good Luck!

I order steamed chicken and snow peas or broccoli and garlic sauce on the side. If  you aren't keen on the sauce then go to town on the chicken and whatever veggies you desire. ANDI ps. i also do the wonton soup broth

Yup yup, Debi is right!  Or if it's a buffet, you'll have loads of non-Chinese food choices!  I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE Chinese food and sushi!  er, used to

Penn Consider focusingon the event and people vs food. Maybe bring a large water bottle w/ you to drink from, avoiding the foo all together, if that won't work for you then before hand reheare your plan, what food do u consider safe? eating around others can cause us to overeat, eat foods we wouldn't normally, not focus on fullness or not chew well and get sick. Chinese food is typcallynot tolerated for many esp. early in first yr postop, rice and noodles swell, the added sugar, fat, chemicals can be irritating and make us dump or vomit as well, everything has added fat/sauce/sugar! I know I didn't try any for 3-4 yrs, I can do shrimp chilled can u/have u tried? Can you ask for steamed veggies/chicken w/o broth or anything added.  I have brought cheese sticks, nuts, low carb cereal bar of powdered protein in a old dry water vottle and add water and shake also. SOme wont do it b/c they feel out of place, thats ok, I see it as taking care of #1 me, something I must do. Again the focus on event vs food helps, rehersal of plan, having backup food perhaps, eat prior to going, tell people if they ask u dont feel well so dont et. Be well.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Before I go I'll drink lots of water and take it from there. I'd be foolish to try something new in a setting like that, so I'll have to use my very best judgement. Boy...will that be different for a change! Take Care~~ Diane
