Marie, I understand how you are feeling right now. I too had to make a decision whether to go with Lap or RNY. At first I opped for the LAP but I did have hestiation after going through the presentation of both procedures at the doctor's office. Basically it's up to you to make that decision. I decided to do a little more research and ask questions about both procedures. I later found out that LAP BAND has more of a maintence factor (I'm not say LAP is no good andy WLS surgery is a tool not a cure.) ie having to get fills if your band needs adjusting. My insurance only covers fills for the first three months after that it would cost me $150 dollars each time. The port can flip which would require surgery if it can't be flipped back. Final for me was just thinking about having a port and long tube in my stomach (that can be reversed) just did not sit right with me. With the RNY it is permanent and maintenance free (if you don't have complications). Two weeks prior to surgery I switched to LAP RNY and I'm glad I did. But again, its your personal preference which you need to discuss with your family, physchologist and doctor. Good Luck.
