Your surgeon would have the best idea what would work for you...but be sure to research it yourself and be sure that you are comfortable with the surgery you chose, you can never be too informed. Best of luck. NoraLynn

I chose the Lapband overthe RNY after resaerching. Nothing was wrong with either one...I just chose LB. I felt at peace. My husband felt at peace as well. I told my surgeon what I wanted and we went over both and asked lots of questions and agreed with me about my choice. Good luck! Talk andresearch...a lot!!!

There are pros and cons to both types. You have to discuss this with your surgeon to find out which will be right for you. Keep researching about the choices so that when you see the Dr. you will be well informed. Take Care~~

I have done most of everything so far. The only thing I have left to do is have a psych evaluation. And that is May 1st. Have you ever heard of Dr Howard Simon? He has done a prior surgery of mine and he states that RNY will have better results than the Lap. How can I find out if the RNY is reversible? I have looked on and read that it can be but that is one question I do have for the doctor. The more I know I would like to know. How and where else can I research?

Worth reading: http://www.themorbidme.com/2006/07/gastric_bypass__1.html Don't go into the procedure thinking about having it reversed! Think of it as the beginning of a new way of life...and a better one at that! I'm down 112 pounds in just over 7 months! I'm doing things I could never do Pre-op. Ultimately the decision is yours. How much do you need to lose? What are your downfalls in regard to dieting? Each surgery has different issues. For me, living with a port just under my skin didn't sit well! Plus, I had a LOT to lose; about 1/2 of what I weighed. PLUS...I liked that RNY was both a restriction and malabsorption whereas Lap Band is restrictive only. Read "WLS For Dummies" ...it helps as well! Good luck! -Karen

I know I have a lot to learn yet. I have done alot of reading, but I think all the encouragement I get with this site is great. I appreciate it. I am having a hard time writing down everything I eat cause right now that is what the doctor wants me to do. They want me to lose before the surgery. I am having a hard time with that and it is causing much frustrations. I have quit smoking and that has been hard as well. That was the first step for a better me and for the surgery of course. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do when it comes to writing everything down. I am sure when I go for my second appointment on Thursday they will be quite upset with me cause I havent been writing down but I did leave a message with the nutritionist. I dont want to not have the surgery. So now I am afraid they wont let me cause I have not been writing down everything. I need more encouragement and support and help with the research.

If your surgeon recommends the RNY, then you do what your surgeons recommendations are, They know whats best for you. DOn't let anyone persuad you in any way or change your mind. May I ask, how old are you and what kind of medical history you have? Sometimes thats a factor also. You can email me. Marie
