Staten Island, NY Dr recommendation?

I am thinking of getting lap band surgery, and want to know if anyone has a good doctor on Staten Island who can do lap band and has the experience. Also if anyone has GHI and had a BMI of 36-37, was there a problem getting approval?

Hi Dorothy, I know that your looking for a doctor in Staten Island, but have you thought about Dr. Fielding or Dr. Ren? They're affiliated with NYU and both are the top notch surgeons in the US.. They do all of the weight loss procedures but specialize more in lap band, I have had a bad experience with my first surgeon then decided to switch to Dr. Fielding best decision I ever made in my life, he's wonderful... He too has the band and can relate to what your going through...The most important thing with the lap band is AFTERCARE and FILLS.. If you have any questions and want to talk email me. Thank you for your reply. Our family Dr who's affiliated with NYU Downtown gave Dr. Ren's name. I am going to an info session Monday nite at Staten Island Univ Hospital with my husband, who is far more obese than I. The S I Drs I saw on their website have done over 600 each and are Board certified, although sometimes that isn't everything, a recommendation from a non-doctor and patient is best! I don't know if I want to travel to NYU Uptown, it is a shlep from the train, plus there will be visits before and after the surgery. Again, thanks and you can email me also. You can also look into United surgical at the Staten island university hospital, Dr. Heather McMullen and her team of surgoens are fantastic. I have lost 250lbs

We my husband and I are going to the info session this Monday. Based on what I read about them, they seem very experienced and the staff seems very nice on the phone. It would be better for us as there will be Dr visits before and after the surgery to have it done "locally". I appreciate your referral, thank you and it is working great for you!

I have the lapBand and I had it done in Staten Island. Dr McMullen was my dr.

Hello, Dr. Ferzli and his team are awesome. My mother works in the medical profession and he was highly recommended. Besides that everything is set up for you from start to finish, so you know what the process will take from the first consultation! Good Luck!
