Does anyone know if following the NutriSystem plan would count towards the 6-month documented weight loss program? I have weekly weigh ins that I can print from their website. Thanks.

you'll have to check with your insurance company to get a definite answer... but my guess would be no, not NutriSystem by itself. Usually, the "documented weight loss attempt" means monthly visits to your doctor where you're weighed in, and an office note is made in your record regarding the visit. That said, keep records of whatever you have (receipts, certificates, etc) from any and all weight loss programs you may enroll in (nutrisystem, weigh****chers, jenny craig, gym memberships, etc) these will only help reinforce your attempts at "traditional" approach to weight loss. Good luck.

Thanks Sean... that makes sense. I WISH that I did have actual records of all the many attempts that I've made over the years... geez, it really goes to show you what a difficult struggle this is.

Sheila: Hello! I would recommend that you contact your insurance company and ask for the definition of their 6-month medically supervised diet. What it must include etc. Sometimes commercial diet programs are accepted, other times it means documentation monthly at your PCP, and for some if you miss a month you have to start all over again. Best advice I can give is call them and ask for answer in writing!!! Be well. It can be challenging but if worth it to you never stop fighting! Hi Sheila It did work for me. I also had a lot of others I had to add. Your Doctor will make it work for you. As long as you have documented EVERYTHING and gave it to your Doctor. They know how to submit it to the insurance companies. They know how to write a good report. Hope and pray all will work out. Kim

Thanks to everyone for responding. I had a glimmer of good news today - I located after many, many, many clicks on my Blue Cross login page the written requirements for weight loss surgery, and it doesn't actually say a 6-month medically supervised plan. Looks like they want the doctor to send documentation on other attempts that I've tried which have failed. I feel very hopeful today. My info session is on 3/6!!!
