I have coffee first thing in the morning and I think it makes me sick. I feel sick to my stomach. Anyone else have that problem?

Try switching to decaf... The Albany Med Group & Albany Clinical Nutrition both told me NO Caffiene... It can irritate your tummy and cause ulcers.... L

Hi Jan. We are really supposed to be careful with caffine however i have a cup first thing every morning about 6 am. I add equal, chocolate protein powder and sugar free coffeemate. I mix in magic bullet. I do some mornings feel like it causes more acid then others and on those days i just take a couple of tums and i am fine. Have to be careful not to cause an ulcer. I drink sometimes 3 cups a day easy. If its making you sick maybe you should try the folgers new blend that is supposed to be easier on your stomach. Or as others said de caf ?? I dont like de caf and need the caffine that is why i drink th ecoffee lol......maybe even some tea?? Hope you feel better. I know i would die if i couldnt have my coffee after everything else i have given up. LisaMarie

Pre-WLS, I drank coffee all day long, well into the evening. After my surgery, I lost the taste for it, in fact, for awhile the thought of it would make me queasy. I think I've had maybe two cups of coffee since April. I do have one cup of tea in the morning simply because I love my tea, but even that took awhile to get used to again. So as suggested, maybe it's a matter of experimenting until you find what works. Good luck, Sue

Jan: Caffeine is discouraged 1 yr postop (or beyond) sinply because it is a gastric irritant and in a new pouch can add to risk of ulcers. It is also mild diuretic, can interfere w/ vit/mineral aborbtion as well as stimulate some peoples appetite. Can you try decaf at least? Maybe coffee in am just wont work now...Try a wam chocolate protein shake made w/ water our of a coffee pot temperature. Thank you for your suggestions and concern. I've been mixing half regular and half decaf. It seems to be better.
